You want to get a poachers attention?  Try Ohio's strategy.

From the link below, Scroll down to "Southeast Ohio - Wildlife District 4".  First paragraph.

The guy in the violation above illegally harvested a 11 point buck that scored 192 inches.  His fine?
$14,694.23 known as the Ohio Trophy Restitution fine.  In a nutshell, he paid $76.25 per inch.

And by the way, that law got challenged in Ohio State counrt last month and the court upheld the law in the case of a hunter
hwo harvested a giant on private property he did not have permissions to be on

And here is a guy in 2011 that had to pay 24k

The formula works like this:
     ((gross score – 100 (squared)) x $1.65) + $500

So if you illegally poached a 150" deer. It would be (150 - 100) for a total of 50.

50 x 50 = 2,500

And then (2,500 x 1.65) + $500.

And your fine would be $7306.25 (plus whatever other court costs they lump on top).

* Only applies to deer over 125 inches *

Nice  :good:

Having hunted the last two years in Ohio, I know that to hunt private land you must possess a Ohio decision of wildlife form 75 " hunting, trapping, or fishing permit on private land" There is a box for daily and seasonal use. If it is daily there is a space for the length of days ex 11/5/15-11/10/15.( 6 days). Further there are boxes that show what activity you have been granted permission to be on the land. That both you and the land owners signs . Relinquishing landowner responsibility.

I almost hit that buck the guy paid 24000 for, was in rail yard, article left out that as they were going after him for tresspassing on federal property, ( after 9/11 rail year are protected by federal.law as a high risk threat.

Should of been dead on the tracks if damn conductor wouldn't of blown horn, missed it by inches... just think if was hit by me and my train would of saved the guy a bunch of cash and problems... butterfly effect !

Yesh. And that's another thing. NY makes landowners work too hard and leaves everything plastered with posted signs. You get caught on private land in Ohio there is no excusec without that permission slip. None.

They still have trsspassing problems but way easier to prosecute and the burden is on the hunter and not the LO.
