MACHINIST
Ok so I know the 3 days this weekend is set up for deer, but what if a bear walks out in front of a youth hunter?I couldn't find anything that was right out in plain view but I am guessing its a nono.My nephew asked me and I didn't have a answer. We have on running around nearby and would hate to find out he could have shot it when he let it go,or he shoots it when he couldn't!!
Hock3y24
Interesting, I would say no out of caution but it's worth asking a dec officer.
jjb4900
actually, it's kinda self explanatory, it's a youth "deer hunt" and that's all..... Q: Is the special "Youth Firearms Deer Hunt" season just for deer or can the junior hunter take a bear too?A: No. The youth deer hunt is just for deer.

46rkl
I asked a related question on another thread and then noticed this one and thought I'd post it here also. Can a youth hunter choose to hunt with a bow and still take a buck? My thought was no, it is a youth firearm season but others disagreed. Since I was hosting a group of youth hunters last weekend, it was an interesting question but no one had a chance to look it up or make a call. The kids dad decided no buck, doe only with the bow. The kid was fine with that, he just wanted to hunt with his bow. Gotta love that kind of dedication to the bow!

G-Man
If the child has a youth bow licence ,he/she can hunt and take doe or buck with it. Continue to hunt and fill doe tags during youth weekend, they are just hunting regular archery season same as the rest of us age doesn't matter. If the choose to hunt rifle/gun for youth hunt they are then limited to 1 deer for youth weekend.
