johnplav
On the last day of SZ regular season, I was hunting in 8H and took a buck that had 1 antler. I'm curious what you guys think. Dec 13 definitely seems early for a buck to be shedding antlers. Could it have been knocked off in a fight with a bigger buck? Or could the warm weather trigger some weird hormone reaction causing him to drop an antler? I'm pretty sure I have a picture of him when he had both antlers. His skull looked normal and healthy, like it was shed naturally. And the remaining antler was still very much attached to the skull. Either way, he was a good sized deer, and my freezer is full. His tall 2 point antler joined my collection of sheds, but with a lot more meaning attached to it.
turkeyfeathers
Could be stress , could be fighting. I shot a "doe" 3 years ago during ml season. Nice fresh snow falling, snow on its head. I flipped it over and yelled " this doe has ballz ". Apparently shed both early. They eat the same with one or two. Or none in my case
robw
2 yrs ago I shot a spike on the last day of gun season and had it lose an antler on the drag out. Happens in Dec, but it seems to be with the smaller bucks first
phade
It is probably shed. I've picked up sheds during MZ season before.
ants
I remember hunting opening week in 9x about ten years ago. Nov. 20th-25th (or right around there) two guys in our group shot bucks that had already dropped one side. One was a nice 8. Who knows??? Steve D
Looks exactly like the one I let go during bow season Only had one side (the right side)....Saw him on 11/4 & 11/20. Hard to believe he would have made it to the end of the season but who knows. I live & hunt in 8h. Sure wish now I would have taken him when he stood there 10 yds. from my stand. Probably not the same buck but who knows! Congratulations!
RangerClay
I bagged an Elliot buck this year. One half was shot off by another hunter.
