WNY Gunsmith's

Looking for someone to do simple gun work, such as scope mounting and such. Who's the best in the area? thanks guys.

Cabela's doesn't have a gunsmith , Harlem GC are cocky Does Corfu gun shop have a gunsmith ? Buddy had some work done at Gunboat Outfitters in Clarence Center and was very pleased with work. It's on Salt Road. 741-3187. Douglas Payne is owner / gunsmith

I believe red barn guns in Franklin ville still has his dad gunsmith last I knew he was real good

If it's just mounting a scope it can be done yourself. Just get some small levels, level the gun then level the scope to the gun

There used to be a guy out in weedsport my father used to go to. Gander used to have one in Henrietta but now they ship it out. Jackson ammo also had one but they got closed down. The guy that did it though was a partnership that had his own business too. I bet he's still around somewhere. I think his name was Jason. He did some work on one of my pistols.

If the gun is already drilled and tapped, do it yourself.

What kind of gun?

If it's a bolt action you can mount and even 'bore-sight' on your own. Mount the scope, and remove the bolt ( with the bold out you can look down the inside of the barrel ). Make a paper target with a dot on it. Set the gun ( not saying just rifle because you can do this with a bolt shotgun as well ) in a stable ( preferably viced ) fixed position. Look through the barrel, and line up the center of the barrel with the dot. Without moving the gun, adjust the crosshairs in the scope to line up with the dot. You should be 'on paper' with this method. Then just dial it in.

 

As for pump or auto loaders, I do take them in for a laser "bore-sight".

Buy a torque screwdriver and a laser bore sighter. Most guys I can guarantee over tighten there scope rings, and cause a good amount of damage while doing so.

Never owned either and have mounted (and taken off) many scopes. 

 

Never (I hate to say this because for damned sure I'll jinx myself) broke a screw or stripped a hole.

 

Mounted lots for friends and family and THAT puts pressure on! 

 

I ain't drilling and tapping anything, that's for the 'smith.

 

Farmer tight isn't for scopes!

Deff don't need the laser...just a fun tool to own.

Mounted a bunch of scopes without the torque screwdriver too, and feel like the job is done properly when using one.

Level is critical, otherwise every adjustment you make as you sight in makes things worse instead of better.
