Frost seeding

Recommended Posts

Ive never done this before but will be trying this year in already existing clover plots,

As i understand it, you want to do so when the day temperature gets high enough to thaw the ground and soften it up, and then at night it freezes over... doing this over and over again they say will draw seed into the ground some.. this is how I have understood it...

So id say March time frame, early April.. and just play it by what the temps are doing during those weeks?

It works, but for a new plot, you'll have to deal with a lot of competition and that usually means chemicals.

Frost seeding works well in existing plots.

If you simply have grass problems and not broadleaf competition, Cleth can be used if it is a straight clover plot. We've done it before. Plot doesn't come out looking ready for a magazine in many cases, but for the effort/money, it will draw deer in to feed.
