philoshop
Takes quite a bit to freeze gasoline, unless it's a diesel. X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems I think I might have gotten some "bad" gas at a little out-of-the-way country store. Might have had some water in it. ETA: The diesel tractor I used to jump the van started right up. Edited February 15, 2016 by philoshop

There really shouldn't be any "crap" in your hoses unless someone put something in there they weren't supposed to, like stop-leak. PREDATE
A simple backflush of your heater core can be done with a garden hose and I recommend you do it spring and fall. It sounds like your radiator(and engine block) are either full of rust or stop leak. Did they flush your whole cooling system?
Paula
I am not sure what the guy did honestly because I was not there. Hubby said rust and junk so I assumed it was from water pump
shawnhu
I am not sure what the guy did honestly because I was not there. Hubby said rust and junk so I assumed it was from water pump If the water pump failed before scheduled maintenance, or lacked timely replacement, it would leak through the weep holes. If a mechanic saw this leak and didn't properly do the repair, he may have used stop-leak instead and caused the clog. Glad you have heat again, but keep an eye on the cooling system, engine temps, and of course, heater operation on that car from now on. jjb4900
when you flush a system that hasn't been maintained for a looong time, you should be prepared for leaks to pop up...many times the crap is holding things together and once it breaks free the leaks open up..........not always, but it's something to be concerned about. BizCT
Here's a step by step for backwash: Shut the system off. This should be the case when working with any type of pool equipment. Unwind your backwash hose, making sure it is tightly clamped to the water outlet. Once the hose is laid down, return to your equipment and find your backwash valve. Most systems have a “Push-Pull” handle. When the handle is in either position, the water will either flow normally through your equipment or flow out of your backwash hose. Labels on your backwash valve will typically have information on which position your valve needs to be in for backwashing. If there are no stickers, look in product documentation. Note – Some systems have multi-port valves instead of “push-pull” valves. Instructions on how to set the valve up for backwashing can either be found on the valve itself or in product documentation. With the system still off, move the backwash valve handle into the backwashing position and lock the handle in place. With the handle locked in the backwash position, turn on your system. You should begin to quickly see water flowing through the backwash hose. Continue backwashing for around 3 minutes or until the water appears clear. When looking at the water flowing out of the hose, you may notice it looking dirty. This is the dirt and debris being removed from the sand in the filter. Turn off the system to stop backwashing. Roll up the hose, removing excess water that is left from backwashing. Return the backwash valve handle to its normal position that allows water to flow through your system and lock it in place. Turn the system on and open up the air relief valve at the top of your filter. Leave this open until water is consistently being released, then close the valve. Shut off the system. Let me know if you need anything further. Glad I could help!
