DAYUM ! I just fell in love with that Faulk's crow call...Do they still make them ?

I have a fairly old Quaker Boy wood bell open reed but it has a plastic mouthpiece..

Good call, but I'd prefer all all wood one...At my age I don't get many woodies..

I have zero luck locating with a crow call. My best locator is real geese, followed by the gates of dump trucks slamming on the 400. Honorable mention to train whistles

If you have a bird located but just can't pinpoint his location; gentle half throttle "caws" should get an answer.  If, after a bit a bird has gone silent and you are afraid to make a hen call (or you already have and haven't and don't want to over do it) and would like to move positions on him, a crow call could illicit a shock gobble.

 

If you DON'T have a gobbler located, about 4 sharp "caws" is what I use. 

 

If'n I had a clue, YouTube would be a good way to make it clearer.........

 

Or.............I could just meet you at Mardee's and we could roust the local birds a bit!!

You have a woodie coming.  I just bought you one off Ebay.  IIRC you have a birthday coming up in March???

Actually, Larry you could leave the owl call at home and just use the crow call.

Despite what many hunters think, gobblers will gobble at a crow call ( or a car horn or ANYTHING loud) well before fly down and think nothing of it.

Runnin' N Gunnin' is how I killed the vast majority of my gobblers..Actually, it was more like " walkin' N Talkin"..I would cover several miles on foot morning after morning trolling for an active bird.

I did this day after day during the spring season for many years.I was fortunate to have many hundreds of acres of land available for me to hunt.

I've slowed down the last 5 or 6 years, though...Spending lots more time sitting on my butt .

I'm really beginning to like it..I get more time for NAPS and still manage to kill a turkey now and then

The time I like the owl hooter best is when it's very early and I haven't a clue where a gobbler is but he COULD be right under my nose.  Then my first hoots are short....."who cooks for you".  Then I'll listen for a minute or two before giving the longer "who cooks for you, who cooks for you alllllllllllll"  Then listen up!!  But sometimes it doesn't work like it should......as you stated!

 

This bird was from May 2nd last year.  I hooted my way down a grass driveway to a cabin, the driveway has to be 1000' long and runs right through the woods.  I can move quietly and stay out of sight for the most part because I know where they usually roost.  Well, I never got a response and that had me slightly baffled as I was positive there was at least one longbeard in there.

 

I felt like I was walking on egg shells but kept going further.  It was getting to be legal shooting time and I hand't heard a gooble anywhere yet.  I got to the front of the cabin and mooched around to the back side and took a wiz break.  While pondering my next move I figured I might as well be the first crow on the block to start squawking.  Damn if I don't get a hard gobble 75 yards away!  Just a few minutes later he flew down and got smashed, while I was within feet of the old cabin.  Loving my Faulks!

Seems like I remember somebody saying he made them out of the cans that concentrated OJ came in??

I have had them gobble at car doors slamming, the action on my brothers 11-87 and the train that rolls through the valley. I have used a mouth call and made a screech sound on occasion too. You never know what will set them off.

I have one I've had for 35 years. Pretty sure it was one of the first type to get used in the wild. A Zelinski made it. It's a V8 or such type of can with brown tree bark type of camo. He's since passed but heard he was a tremendous turkey hunter. I carry it in my vest but it hasn't really fired up too many birds. Even the crow call is hit and miss. With miss most of the time.

  TF,    Does this Zelinski you speak of own a farm on the Hiram rd. off rt.39 in Arcade area?  If so we use to hunt their farm & surrounding area   30 years ago.
