What are you guys paying .....

Recommended Posts

WHAT!!!!!!

I had to look high and low to manage to find it for 4.90 a pound!.. Then WR was 55#'s for 28.00...My problem is I don't need a 50 # bag of turnips not 12 bags of WR

I should have added buckwheat to that...last year I was quoted 79.00 a 50# bag...I only looked one place though

I'm living in the wrong area...WNYBH what have you been seeing around here...looks like I need to make some phone calls...I miss the old feed mills that use to be around...all the ones around us closed down...now I have to travel...so lower prices farther out...I'm still rolled in the hay as it were...paying for gas back and forth.

Are you guys mixing seeds? When will you be putting WR in?

Cut off date for me for WW,WR is September 10th, western part of the state for my plantings. I tend to go earlier for good top growth for deer feeding. Deer feed on it early November right through muzzleloader season.  I mix only oats, timothy, and bluegrass with my Daikon radish seed and plant by last of July. Frost seed red clover mixed with trefoil in March. Works for me but, maybe not everyone. Clear seed alfalfa till August 15th.

With this drought continuing, I'm running on the side of caution, as to how much seed to buy.  Don't like year to year carry over of seed that can't be fed. Already worked in 300 lbs. of available nitrogen for the radish oat mixture. Oats will lie in the ground for a while, if moisture isn't present, don't know about the radish.

I havent even had time to look at prices yet. Ill let you know what I get this coming weekend. I have to grab PTT, Rape, GHR mix and @ 600lbs of 19-19-19 this weekend. Most likely at Turners unless hes out.

The rest of the plots will be oats or WR. Im also going to do a couple of WR plots with clover mixed in, so that they have the WR for this season and turn into nice clover plots for next year. That stuff wont be going in for another month.

Thanks...let me know what he quotes you on the WR,WW...I actually need to get in there for some more clover...The lower plot was a bust this year and that is my main feed field ...I'm looking to go with a combo of grains turnips and clovers...but a grass has invaded and It will need a spray down... the lane way will get a WTI chicory plus I won. Then turnips and a grain turnip mix....Suppose to be another cold winter and I'm really hoping for that snow...like it or not we need it bad for the water table...just not a lot  that's not melting slowly ,then recovering with more.

I was going to try...and still may, depending, the WTI oats plus. Then I used all my Gander points on another Spypoint cam ...129.00  down to 89 with a 8mp card and a rebate from Spypoint ending cost 59.00...seeing it was free anyways I'll get cash for seed back...BF8...I already have one and it takes decent picks...These picks make me laugh...imagine when they actually have food here, the rains have the clover I planted sprouting already..with more rains due this week......I'm thinking it will get good growth this year...being a mix of red /wht/and burnett

So I went down to Turners this past Saturday and picked up everything for the Brassica plots. Prices were as follows:

10-20-20 was 12.25/50lbs

Brassicas (dwarf essex rape) were 1.95/lb

Purple Top Turnips were 8.75/lb

GH Radish was $4/lb

He does not have any WR in yet, so he didnt give me a price on that yet. I have a different source for that this year anyhow.

Yeah I thought it was pretty pricey this year too, but I only needed a few lbs, and I was there so I bought them.

I was going to order some brassicas from you SplitG2, but I just figured Id get it all at once. Ill be ordering another mix from you for a couple of our other plots soon though.
