Holding Those Responsible

Recommended Posts

“No one is above the law,” she said. “To suggest that the most powerful people in our nation should escape liability when they violate clearly established law defies the most fundamental principle of our legal system.”

“At a time when racial and religious profiling are put forward as serious policy proposals for dealing with everything from immigration to terrorism, it is more important than ever that the high court affirm that government officials, especially those at the highest levels, can be held accountable when they break the law,” she said.

I would think Hillary would be terrified of the SCOTUS finding these government officials guilty.

Why would that be? Have you forgotten the FBI has found she has committed any crime.

The FBI actually listed multiple crimes she had committed. All of the things comey listed are actual crimes already on the books. They just chose not to prosecute. There is a meaningful distinction.

There is a very strong case to be made for the fact the FBI was not impartial and screwed this up.

The fact that on the day Comey gave his talk he said that somebody else doing the very same thing could be charged for a crime, but that they have not decided that with Clinton...and then weeks later we find out that he "wasn't even close" to recommending charges concerns the hell out of me. The first statement hinting they were on the fence, the second they are not even close, yet somebody else could be charged.

And that's beside the point that he also listed multiple ways in which she was "grossly negligent", something for which there is already a law against being, but again no crime. People have been recently convicted for much less.

With Obama having appointed the director of the FBI, the head of the justice department, and then before the case being closed he also endorses the person they are investigating, no reasonable person can assume it was looked at fairly. And of course the chat lynch had with the husband of the guy they are investigating in a high profile case. It couldn't be more in your face screw the citizens we don't care.

As for bush I think he should already be in prison over the iraq war. Nothing will come of this scotus case. Even if they find the government acted in the wrong none of the people who led this effort will be punished in any meaningful way. As a co-worker told me, some people think there is a justice system for the connected and one for the rest of us, but that's not true; there isn't a justice system for the connected.

Director Comey described Clinton's actions as "extremely reckless", but then said that there was no evidence of "intent". The US legal code in this particular case makes no reference to "intent" as part of it's "burden of proof". The burden of proof is met by  the finding of "gross negligence". Look up the term "gross negligence" in a legal dictionary and you'll find the term "extreme recklessness" as a definition. Comey apparently had met the burden of proof and he still refused to refer the case to the DOJ  for prosecution.

I just don't understand how the public can stand by and watch as the "BIG" political machines continue their reign of corruption. We are talking billions of dollars funneled through "foundations" with ties to foreign interests; I am not a conspiracy theorist, alarmist or great believer in the current political system. I am an ordinary citizen, have a family, and have been employed since I was 14 years old. I am utterly sick watching this campaign unfold.

The corruption, backdoor deals and endless trail of ill gotten money makes me sick. There is no longer justice in the system. We have special interest groups following politicians who follow the power and money trail. The absolute arrogance and bias against the public from the Clinton side is beyond belief.

The media is so bias that the coverage is buried or tainted with a spin. When their (Dems) backs are against the wall the cliche excuses flow like water. The content of the e-mails released should make the ordinary citizen vomit in disgust. This is how we are "represented" by "our" trusted elected leaders and thought of by them.

It was the Russians, Trump must be behind this, oops didn't fact check that, deny-deny and deny more; all while displaying an overly arrogant smug smile and laugh. The typical lawyer answers come forth in slews of redundancy.

Our government leaders are not leaders at all; they are followers, followers of big-big money. We are the blind sheep watching this unfold and while this happens, the "government" takes control of our industry through regulations, our health care systems, our energy supplies, who is allowed into this country unrestricted, meanwhile our taxes are on the rise and we have less to show for it. The national debt is so far out of control it may NEVER be reeled in.

This while it is screamed by the media Trump said the word "pussy'; yes he was dead wrong in his words and maybe his actions. But what is happening as we watch our country spiral downward is disgusting.

Simply disgusting and so much more than unsettling...I fear the future ......

WRONG!  It has NOT always been that way!

It has been that way since the elected officials in this land decided they are above the law and it doesn't apply to them.  It may have been over 200 years ago that it wasn't true, but anyone willing to accept it and able to "get over it" is a true sheep and a fool!

When it is proven someone escaped prosecution because of someone they knew, BOTH of them should be prosecuted and jailed!

Truth.

I actually thought Comey would be good on this case because everyone said he was a straight shooter and it seemed to me he even had a personal bone to pick with the Clintons. I thought to myself that if there is real meat to this, he'll recommend charges.

I expected one of two things from his press conference:

1) We looked, we just can't find anything, sorry guys, drudgereport led you astray. There is no fire here or even any smoke.

or

2) Yep, we found some evidence of illegal behavior, she breached multiple laws, lied against the classified material. All the stuff you read was actually true. We recommend charges

What I never envisioned was a combination of 2) and 1): Yes, everything you read is true, she broke the law, lots of classified material badly treated without proper security but...you know, she's like Clinton, so come on we're not charging her. But before you go thinking you can get away with this, don't; you can't and we will charge you because you're a peasant if you do the same.

Comey screwed us.

I think everyone here accepts it as fact; we don't deny it. But, many of us also hope for something better. I think the US justice system is among the worst in the developed world. I don't accept that this is as good as it can get.
