Pre-rut scent?

HI guys just wondering on what scent and why for pre rut?

I bought a little doe in estrus gel 2 weeks ago, put out a decoy and scent early last week and I brought in a deer I couldn't see its head but once the wind hit it from the scent it took off so that was to soon for estrus.

I've been hunting all week with just foe pee on my boot pads and the does don't mind it and follow on my tracks but no bucks so far..

I have never tried the buck pee... but I do have a mock scrape n drip but it's seen nothing for two weeks maybe three at this point...

So what are you using and why??

Don't under estimate the use of scents In the woods.  I only use estrous scent.  I prefer to use during the pre-rut.  If a buck comes through, he might not be able to resist the urge to follow his nose. Once many does are in estrous, there is too much competition and I feel the mature bucks prefer the "real" "fresh" scent.  I'll always have a can of buck bomb in my bag this time of year.  It is by far my favorite.

Now now....we know your on the evercalm band wagon.......lol

Yup, I did use the ever calm with good results, for early season when the deer were in a feeding to bed pattern. Now during the pre-rut and rut I change set-ups. And I will try to be as scent free as possible, to keep things as natural as I can. This time of year there is "plenty of natural deer scent" in the woods. I try to use that to my advantage!

I was just picking on you Grampy!!  On a serious note....You have a lot more experience than me...Do you think the evercalm could hurt this time of year? It is the one scent I use everytime....Not to highjack the thread...

The Ever Calm , may work as well as it did in the early season or may not. See, during the pre-rut and rut, I change set ups from a feed to bed pattern, to a get closer to the does and travel funnel pattern. Both of these areas already have a good deal of natural deer scent. My way of thinking is "why mess that up"? Just my opinion!

I stay scent free. I stink up the scrapes and rub lines with urine and Evercalm rutting buck pre rut...This combo gets us real nice cam pics and seems to stir up the woods. But honestly I've pissed on scrapes and it gets bucks to frequent the area just as much lol.
