BigVal
Hey guys as some know I primarily hunt big water erie and niagara river. Had some trouble with ice today on the river so I'm thinking of giving my Creek (always open) a try in the southenteir. I've seen ducks land here before but never hunted such a small creek. Any tips or advice? What's best jump shooting or try to decoy?
The_Real_TCIII
I hunt a small creek, it's slow you won't have big groups come in but a duck here, a pair there. I put a few decoys out. It's really fun in October when the woodies are aroundSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

philoshop
I haven't hunted creeks in a long time, but they can produce a lot of action when the weather gets bad. Two or three decoys is about all you'll need, which is nice, and a good hiding spot is critical. Disturb the area as little as possible because the ducks have probably been there before and really know when something's not right. One thing I've found that really can help with these small setups is a little motion on the decoys. A piece of light fishing line tied around the bill can work, and if you can run it down through the anchor and get a small bobble action it's even better. Shots will generally be close in and very fast, more like grouse hunting. Best of luck Val.

Al Bundy
I jump shot creeks many years ago. Never decoyed a creek before. In my opinion jump shooting ducks is very challenging. Walk slow and silent as possible and keep your eyes open if you jump shoot. Ducks blend in with the surrounding on a creek. Good luck. The_Real_TCIII
I'm going to hunt a creek Wednesday morning. This weather has taken away the big waters as an option for me, I can't retrieve when the waves are 4-6' lol Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Al Bundy
Not sure I would want to be swimming in the open water or a creek in January. You sure are a trooper retrieving ducks in this weather... !!!!
The_Real_TCIII
When we shoreline hunt we wade to set the decoys and also retrieve. Its hairy, when there are waves its dicey!

The_Real_TCIII
THere's a little creek by my house that's got a half dozen mallards in it right now. This would be a great time to jump shoot a creek I think they like when they're running highSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
