I should note that the "upper burlap blind" and "acorn flat blind" are both the areas where I planted throw & grow in the late spring and recently over labor day. It definitely is working to draw them in more frequently. The upper burlap blind spot is a tiny plot, but the plot by the acorn flat blind is much larger (approx. 100 feet x 50 feet, and littered with acorns, of course). I think of it as a buffet for them lol.

9/30: final tuneup. Expected to colder than I thought tomorrow, 41 degrees so decided to shoot in what I plan to wear tomorrow. Had no effect on my shooting so that’s good. Very windy and light rain now, but still shot well.

First shot 26yds, then 31 (little low), last was 33yds. First 2 BH’s and the last was FP. That’s it, I’m done. 169 shots for the career. Hopefully number 170 is on an 8pt at sunrise tomorrow.

sorry for sideways pics but until Someone gets Tapatalk working, this is how it will be

That’s right, Gents. I told my Dad to be ready to come with the ATV around 9am tomorrow to help me get the 8pt out.

Looks like I was off by 1 week. Last Sunday had the 8pt I’m after fighting with a big 7 I haven’t had pics of since July. They hung out in front of my blind for 1.5hours, then does and spike cams through later that morning.

Go to work, save those days for early November

I've got to agree with the man. Id save those days for November or late October if November doesn't work for you.

Only allowed off 2 days in November. I usually take the Monday after xbow opener and Monday after gun opener. So I also took off 10/30 and 10/31.

I always get daylight pics of bucks in October so I wanted to give myself a few chances.

10/2 (Morning): hunted dark to 10am in 3S from the ground but perched up about 10-12 feet on some rocks. It was 41 degrees and foggy. Had a piece of camo wood I found behind me. 3pt came in at 645am from behind to my right at 35yds walking away from me. Then came back at 710 right in front of me under 20yds. He did a big circle around me while I videotaped him. Since I can’t post video, i screen shotted him when he was at 20yds. He never spooked. Didn’t see any other deer. Checked cams and had pic of basket 6/7pt and the same 3pt. no bigger bucks, but found another fresh buck. Not sure where I will head this afternoon. Probably back to parents land in 3N where there are at least 4 shooters (for me).

10/2 (afternoon): back at my parents land. Checked a cam about 400yds downhill and found pics of same 7pt and 8pt. Nothing there since Tuesday either, probably from the heat but hopefully they move again sooner or later.

Then came back uphill and checked The other cams and they had nothing since yesterday when I checked them. But when I got to upper burlap blind cam, a deer was down below the cam like 50yds, and it ran down the hill. I couldn’t tell buck or doe or if there were more than 1. Maybe it was bedded there on the hill.

it’s 3:11pm now and I’m back in ground blind watching acorn flat till dark.

Hang in there. They will be around sooner or later. Good luck tonight. I'm out as well. Beautiful evening, sitting in the shade at least haha. That suns a bit warm but this shady breeze at 20 ft up feels awesome.

Thx you too! Killed my first ever Mule Deer on 5 years ago today, 10/2/12. Hoping for another nice kill
