wfmiller
My scouting consists of setting up cameras at the end of August. We've been hunting our property for years so we already know everything we need to about the deer.

turkeyfeathers
Preliminary scouting starts May 1st with turkey season. I set cams up in July this year. Check cams every week or so and take a little stroll around. Fall turkey season while checking cams I'll stroll a little more
G-Man
All my scouting is done in Dec Jan Feb. I then set my stands in July after double checking crop field use. A couple of cams up in spend of Sept in general feeding areas. And stay out of woods from labor day to opening day.. Current observations while inner and or walking to stands is only in season I allow or do. Less scent and disturbance in the woods is key where I am as all the camps hit the woods with atvs and hanging stands.. The deer leave this woods and come to nice quiet safe mine... I picked up some good intel by predator hunting after deer season and following fresh tracks during nighttime snowfalls. This year I hung cams in late July and that's worked out pretty well. Doc
Whenever I am out in the woods, I am taking note of deer sign, trails, food sources, and anything that at some point in the year will provide a reason for deer to be there. My best and most relative scouting happens right during the season.
genesee_mohican
I love to start scouting right after the season ends. It's a great time to explore new areas and spots that came to mind during the season, but didn't have time to check out. I'll do some scouting, run trail cams and shed hunt till May, Keep cams out year round too, then pick up the scouting in Sept again. Having things scouted out well and stands up that I'll have ready for this time of year is a good thing.
