BizCT
Well maybe now these clowns in office around here will lower the property tax here ,the way it is in most the country instead of ripping us off with these outrageous high taxes they have here .It’s really the school tax that is much more than the county/town taxSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
mayo
The tax bill did nothing to address the real issue which is overspending. Also in reality ny state generates more tax dollars than other states so why wouldnt its residents get more breaks than most?Because States are not administrative provinces of the federal government. They are district and separate. If NYS, in its infinite wisdom, wants to give illegals instate college tuition then the residents of that state should pay for it.Same as when this same all-knowing government decides to keep its citizens SAFE by limiting magazines to 7 rounds - this only applies to NYS.No reason someone from NH should pay for NY and California giving illegals instate or free college. And let's not forget the job and tax revenue losses when ATI and other companies left New York.Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk

mayo
The government spending is out of control no doubt. But how much federal tax dollars does New Hampshire generate compared to New York?NH generates far less in total but that doesn't mean its citizens ought to pay for us. Comrade de Blasio is spending tons of money foolishly regarding the homeless problem (and elsewhere). People in Sullivan and Ulster county don't have to pay for it.I live in deep blue Brooklyn. My taxes pay for it. I'm pretty sure Brooklyn generates more federal dollars than does Ulster and Sullivan county combined. What we spend our taxes on is our business as NY residents. It's not NH or Iowa's concern. It's our choice and our responsibility.I don't want to pay more in taxes either. It's our responsibility to hire politicians who won't tax and spend us to death. We have statewide elections next year. Let's get our fellow citizens to rally around a less bloated, smarter government whose first reaction to solving a problem isn't reaching into our pockets.Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk

The Total NY pays means nothing. look at your exact counterpart in another state that has much lower state and local taxes and doesn't get the write-off. do you or they pay more federal taxes?

As a percentage the state of ny pays about 10 percent of the federal income tax. So i do feel ny tax dollars help other states. With the new tax plan that percentage will increase from our state. I am by no means justifying what ny state politicians spend niether.

You are talking totals. As a percentage of total income NY doesn’t pay an equal share. Because of the deduction of high taxes.
dbHunterNY
family farm being paid Friday here, despite local municipalities have been saying it can't be. otherwise losing $18k of deductions with a $10k cap. land costs a lot to keep. However other states get funding from the federal government just like New York. Other states benefit from the total tax dollars that New York puts in and that is why the deductions make sense to me. The real issue for me is the excess spending that all government parties.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/2017/12/28/irs-property-tax-prepayers-not-so-fast/986804001/ Quote In an advisory posted on the tax agency's website, the IRS said prepayments of 2018 state and local taxes before Jan. 1 may be tax deductible, but only if the municipalities have actually assessed the taxes before the year ends. "State or local law determines whether and when a property tax is assessed, which is generally when the taxpayer becomes liable for the property tax imposed," the IRA advisory said. BizCT
I just read an article with a quote from the IRS that hey we’re not going to honor 2018 payments made in 2017 I didn’t pay all of my 2018 taxes in 2017. I only paid the one portion due 1/31/18 early in 2017. So instead of paying $13.2K in 2017 and and 2018. I paid like $17.4K in 2017 and will only pay like 9K in 2018. All I did was pay my bill early. I paid on 12/13 instead of the due date of 1/31. I think the issue is people trying to pay all of their 2018 taxes up front. I was a few weeks ahead of this hoopla and simply doing something you can do any year Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

You just want to pre pay the portion of next years that would put you over the 10k cap like you did Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
