There was a video on netflix a while back about Muscle Shoals recording studio. Not sure if it's still available. Check it out if you can find it. Aretha Franklin was one of the many artists.

A friend of mine did some session work with her in the early 1980's and described her as a b**ch, but later softened and said that he understood it to be frustration. If the sound in her head didn't come out in the studio she would lash out. That pretty much describes every talented musician I've ever worked with. Without passion, there is no music.
