Wood fired pizza ovens?

Anyone have a wood fired pizza oven in their yard? More importantly did anyone build it him/herself?

I was kicking around the idea of making this a daddy/daughter project seeing as she loves pizza more than anything else in this world (besides broadway but she can’t eat that) and she gets the short end of my time. Mom does all of her auditions and voice and NYC stuff and I coach my boys travels baseball so they get too much time with me. Might be a cool project for us to tackle together

Quick search shows many a YouTube video but hoping for some NY hunter expertise first

I have one still in the box along with a pergola. Had a paver patio done last year and my plan is a outdoor kitchen but work has been crazy all summer and haven’t had a chance to work on projects around the house. I went to a party that had two of these ovens and was catered by a guy who builds them. Not cheap and the only reason I got one cause wife fell in love with the idea.

Forno Bravo?
I know I can’t swing the price for a full kit which is why I was going for the DIY option. May not be as official or as insulated but hoping to do the trick...the journey may be more important than the destination for this one. And yet there better be some pizza at the end of this journey!

Here’s one that’s piqued my interest:

Been involved with 3 on customers jobs.

One stand alone dome (similar to your link); one dome incorporated with a fireplace and a barrel vault one that was part of a outdoor grill.

Barrel vault one was easy and the customer uses it still a few years later. She always does more than pizza though once its hot and does breads in it too. I haven't worked there in a few years and miss that place, she would feed us on Fridays.

If I was light on mason skills and experience, that'd be a easier build. Make a base, build a disposable form with some foam board, cover it with bricks, insulate and parge over the top of some expanded metal lath.

There's a place in Florida, NY (Orange county) that sells refractory board and blanket best pricing I have found mail order (google that). Used it for my maple syrup evaporator build. Caution working with that stuff, and all mason products; the dust is nasty bad for you especially that blanket.

Great topic! Next spring I'm looking to make my own outdoor oven for multiple use. I look forward to updates on this thread. I have plenty of bricks just working on a design and main use.

Any plans yet? What style are you thinking about?

Similar...but different...

Leaning towards following this guy but he plans on cooking pizza in a pan and not on the floor of the oven because his floor will be rough. Thinking of dropping a pizza stone in the middle of his floor to cook on since the charred crust is what I(ok...SHE!) wants!

My father in law built one at his old house in Western NY.  They had a few pizza parties over there and it worked very good.  It was so hot, that the time it took to cook a pizza was measured in seconds.   I do not care much for that thin-crust, crispy-style pizza, but they work great for those who do.   I think he found plans on line or something.  It was a big, fancy looking deal with a tin roof, masonry walls with an iron fire box below the brick oven.   They moved up to the Adirondacks last year.  I wonder if the new owners are using it.
