DEC new Regulations Buck only

Seriously? You need to read that to figure out what they would have to do? Come on Doc, you arent stupid, you can put 2 and 2 together. DEC says your chances for DMPs would be greater and that you would have to use them during bow season instead of the either sex tag, logic says the DMP drawings have to happen, or at least start, well before opening day of bow season.

Thats whats annoying me about this, you guys are sitting here making all kinds of crazy assumptions about what tags youll get, what your chances will be at a DMP, etc etc, but something that makes sense given the information that is available, like figuring out the DMP drawings would have to start earlier, seems to escape you. Its downright silly.

Well first of all, don't be mixing me in with those that have been trying to figure how many tags we are getting. I haven't even begun to delve into that one yet. So I am consistant in not making any assumptions on this issue. I can only go by what the current situations are and what is written in the plan. I will leave all the wishful thinking to those of you who need that sort of thing to justify your argument.

I didnt mean to mix you into the people guessing at tag numbers. Why dont you email DEC with your questions and post the answers? I always have good luck getting answers when I toss questions their way.

your right...it would be a doe tag if I took a buck in bow....then the gun season I have the reg buck and DMPS...not often do I take a buck during gun...unless at camp....I'd have to go back and look at my tags again....there is  system I use when trying to figure out how to have enough tags to be out in the field ...watching my father in-law at camp during ML....by then every one else is working...some times it only works if one of his hunting buddies can't make it down to hunt after applying  for 8X tags and there is one that is signed over before season...that also gives me another option on how and when I'll use  my tags..I could just go down and not hunt ...but being out in the field with the chance a deer would come by and I'd have to sit there ...nope have to do that with buck all the time....my choice... not going to sit out in the cold and not be able to take a shot if it presents because I have no tag and my gun is at home...See this is never a problem at home....until last year I would go the Conesus at 4a.m.(one year) the clerk opened and there was a line of us for the second draw....then Walmart served coffee and donuts to a lrg group at 5 a.m. ...when the computer system crashed on another second draw...but they cut tag #'s in half here at home last year

I know everyone has their own thing when it comes to hunting... but if I spent all the time you spend figuring out how to use your tags and waiting in line for extra tags... It would take the fun out of hunting for me... a buck tag for bow and a buck tag for gun are plenty for me... I am lucky to always have gotten at least one DMP tag which I always save so that I can hunt the late muzzleloader. I also am different in that I have always put in for DMP second choice in a high chance area regardless of what WMU it is in.. and will hunt state land in that area with muzzleloader if need be so that I can hunt the late season. But I know you enjoy spending more time getting your land ready and working hard on your property to get ready for deer season..and from what I've seen from some of your posted pics you're good at it.. so it must be fun for you... If thats the case.. God Bless You... I like to keep hunting as stress free and less like work as possible... :)

If someone told me I could have only one buck tag and only one doe tag per year and I could use them during any of the different seasons (most especially the gun season) I would live happily ever after for I don't care to have any more than that.

I agree on making hunting as stress free and as least complicated as possible.  I for one have never fed a deer anything that I had to work to plant myself, and highly doubt that I ever will. I think if I had to slave away all summer just to get a crack at a deer, hunting for me would get OLD real fast.

I would take that deal in a heart beat. Or even if I got a doe permit every other year.

To me the doe tag is the most valuable tag.  They could keep the extra buck tag that many people seem to want if I was assured a doe tag that could be used in any of the seasons.  Yes, currently I can kill a doe with a bow or muzzleloader, but I have never considered myself much of a bowhunter nor do I really care to hunt that late into December with a muzzleloader in the SZ, so to have a doe tag for the other weapons isn't exactly the same thing as having a doe tag that I could use during the regular gun season when my odds for actually killing one become reasonable.

I think we have found some common ground Steve...

Heres the deal...I spend so much time figuring the tag thing mainly at camp ...in order to look out after my 74yr old father in-law...he actually bought my ML so he'd have a hunting partner then...The planting and building on the property is mainly for enjoyment...but  also to undo a plowing the old farmer did ...then never disced and smoothed it...most of his farm fields reverted back to hard maple and oak but I want to keep whats open left open ...and still have kidneys intact at the end of summer...might as well plant them while "repairing" them...hard work yep.... love it certainly...not just as a chance to see a deer....if that were the case I'd put in one big plot and 3 stands...not 28  + ground blinds and 13 plots...I also like to do things ppl say can't be done...like growing kiwis and persimmon in these hills...soybeans and corn in small plots...good stand of corn from 9.00 feed corn....when I'm too old to hunt or feeble to keep this property up to snuff ...well I may have to sell...hopefully the kids will get it but if it were to get down to selling....you can bet I WILL get top dollar for this place as a home/hunting property...and thats a fact :D

Standing in line in the wee hours just to get tags ..no...I'm a chatter and you'd be very surprised how striking up a conversation can bring about a lot of info on many topics...no different than grocery shopping or standing in line at the bank....you'd be seriously surprised at the things ppl will chat about in line ;)

The last thing on that topic...well I'm a planner...I plan for things years down the road....I planned my kids...went to first Dr appt and told him the first would be a girl and born between the 6th and 9th...he just laughed...told me it was impossible to plan a babies birth date that close...both were natural...In labor at hospital on the 7th and had her on the 8th(mothers day).....second I planned for my birthday...went in said it will be a boy and on  my birthday...Dr. still laughed... MY sis... I hadn't seen in ten years.... showed up  at my door as a surprise...she got me one day off my schedule...our son was born the day after my birthday....yep I like to plan things out :) ...well I bet that was too much info....Hahahah you get my point though I'm sure ;D

I think it might surprise a lot of non or anti food-plotters as to just how much enjoyment that hunters get out of playing the farmer thing. Years ago, I spent some time as a part-time farmer, and for those who visualize this sort of thing as grueling work that is some kind of torture, I think you would be surprised at just how satisfying, relaxing, and down-right fun that sort of thing can be. So don't feel sorry for the food-plotters and how much time, money, and sweat they put into their plots. I don't doubt for a minute that they are having a ball even if their plots never attract one deer.
