Clearly his teammates do not understand the traditions that go along with ones first perfect straight. Obviously said hat is not being worn when it's shot

Congrats to your son...A straight at trap is much harder than a straight at skeet...Back in the day I shot a number of 25 straights and a couple of 50s at skeet, but I never shot one at trap  ...My best trap round was either a 23 or a 24...

Shooting trap well is a lot lot like hitting pitches from someone who's good at pitching. You can't just guess, but you have almost no time to figure things out...so. I always sucked at it. Major congrats to your son!
