Self filming

Hey guys

I do alot of self filming

I do it mostly for the memories. I'm not in it for a million subscribers. I mostly do it for my father who barely hunts anymore so he can see what I see and enjoy the hunt with me. I got my passion from him when I was young and in have been hooked since.

Guys who self film or guys who watch other hunters on youtube what do you look for in a video or aim to capture or tell a story ?

I like watching the hunting public. I enjoy the process of picking a spot and why and when. I also like seeing what setups different people have and how they go about the hunt from start to finish.

It is nice if i can learn something while watching or at least get food for thought.

I personally dont use a go pro

I think the footage is good for fishing but not hunting

I love hunting public

I look for the same thing when watching videos.

Like why they chose that spot and why they hunted on that wind or why they felt deer funneled to that location.

I agree with the face time but u need that to tell the story sometimes lol

I self film on Chaterbate. I feel safe in the confines of my own home and I wear a mask covering my face. I try not to think about who is watching me but rather focus on the $. I typically charge $7.99/minute, unless I'm running a special.

I bought just a handheld HD Sony vid cam a few years ago, to keep track and make memories i can look back on as you mentioned. Also, To film my children as they hunt and enjoy the same passions. Though since I have bought the gear to start, I havent been out hunting much due to family issues and health scares. And when I do go, its always been last minute kind of deal, and the camera sits home, since I hadn't even considered taking it. The first time I took it out, was the night i finally got a chance at my #1 buck after chasing him for 6 years. and i forgot to hit the record button, and im glad i did because i missed the shot lol.

Im looking for tips as well, I dount ill upload any to youtube or anything, but I dont see an issue with guys explaining their setups where their setup is currently and why. A little facetime is cool, but unless you are experienced in facing the camera lens, it can be awkward lol Any type of clean video footage in the woods is cool with me. I do like the go pro when they are angled to focus on the hunter only, not for filming shot opportunities though.

Wish i had more time to enjoy self filming, I plan to film our daytime coyote hunts this winter..

I've tried it a bit but not with the right gear. I'm thinking a go pro on one of the long swivel arms is probably the way to go? Maybe two ideally because it's not always easy to know where the deer will go. A good head mounted rig would work well but I haven't seen one suitable for hunting....weapon-mounted video systems suck due to vibration.

I use a sony ax53 and a sony 6300 both give me amazing footage but sometimes I hate carrying all the extra weight lol

I hunt from a saddle and my saddle set up is under 10 lbs when I add the camera gear I jump up alot. I always ask myself is it worth it lol but when I get calls from my dad saying he was up until 3 am watching my videos to me that's priceless

What do you use to climb the tree? Your setup sounds super light....

I use the beast sticks idk if you have heard of them before. They are under 2 lbs a piece and I have a removable aider that I use also.

My platform is 3 lbs

I use 3 beast sticks with a rope mod that weighs about 6 total lbs  for all 3

I have one aider that I use . Its removable so when I climb I bring it up with each stick. I am 6 1 and I can spread them out pretty good. I get about 15 to 17 feet with my set up.

I think i will be saving my squirrelnuts until next year and then jump in headfirst and get that whole set up you have. It will hurt, but hopefully only once.

I was so iffy about saddles until I sat in one

Hard to go back to a stand

That is kinda why i think i might drop that money. One setup to replace all my stands. My safety harness should probably be replaced, and some of the hang ons will need work soon too. I won't spend money on lifelines or ladders or hang ons or a new harness.

I tried a little self filming with one of my old girlfriends...

I was going to name it "  Debby Does Doggie Style"....

It didn't work out...Every time I tried to put the leash on her, she ran under the porch...
