greybeard
Maybe it's where I've been hangin' out, but in the past year I've seen more Red Fox, then I ever have before. I have a spot where I fish in the kayak and have been calling them in pretty often. Not hunting, just calling when I take a break from fishing. I try out different calls and techniques. No one calls there and there's no hunting in the area, so it's a nice place to play. Two days ago I paddled near the den and I used my syco tweety call and made bird sounds . I was sitting in my kayak in tall grass by the shore and called for maybe 30 seconds and he came in so fast I thought he'd jump in the 'yak. I was glad he saw me when he was within 10 yards from me and trotted off.(I didn't want company in the kayak.).I'm glad no one knows that they are there (great fishing spot too) Has anyone been noticing more fox in their area ? wdswtr
Yes same here at home. Trapping them has been very good past few years, the problem is they have been full of tics from head to toe. One last year was absolutley sickly looking and must have had hundreds of tick on him. Didnt dare to touch him much so he took a dunk in the creek weighted down for a few days before I brought him to the fur shed. Hide was worth pennies so alot of it went in the fly tying desk. Cabin Fever
Some guys that I know that mainly trap fox didn't trap them last year, due to fur prices being so low. I noticed a big increase last fall while deer hunting. This spring and early summer, I saw 6-10 kits just about every morning (~4am) on my way to work playing in the road at random places. I remembered thinking then, I don't ever recall seeing so many red fox.
WNYBuckHunter
We have a ton of them where I am. The farmer doesnt want them shot, as they do the steeple chase style fox hunts on the property every year.
apertureguy
I keep seeing them as well...and several of them have been very small and with a wicked case of mange. I'm hoping to see some Bobcats this year and anything else with a good looking pelt.

Doc
As I understand it, the fox population has a disease cycle that effects their numbers. Distemper, rabies, mange, etc. So chances are pretty good that if you are seeing a bunch of them now, in a few years they will most likely return to being scarce.
