Is that what this is? Found it a couple of years ago, had no idea that it would be edible. It was 18-20 inches high.

Yours looks exactly what I expected lions mane to be. The one i ate (and the one G-Spot found) looks more like cauliflower

Yep you have species of Herecium. I'm guessing Herecium erinaceus(lions mane). I've only eaten this particular fungi from a local commercial fungi farm. I found it quite tasteless and boring which indicates that the probably cultivate it in a sterile environment.It does have great health benefits. Brain food!

I have found Herecium americanum(Bears Head Tooth) and it's quite delicious with seafood taste/texture.

I was excited to try it and disappointed with the flat flavor. It was from a cultivated farm so maybe that’s it. It also had a full cauliflower look(no shag on that carpet!) and I wonder if that shag adds to the flavor

Hens are still a few weeks out.
That looks to be a turkey tail fungi.
