New fall food plots

Up at 5 am loaded the tractor and on my land by 7 am ... muggy morning .

 

 

Took the brush hog but didn't use much .. actually wish I left it home this morning . Makes it hard to maneuver  with fel .

This is my kill plot.  It's pretty over grown and not getting much sun . Haven't  planted on it  in5 or 6 years . But there is still some clover

4 hrs of running  fel ... chainsaw  and this was all I could get done ... dry and hot

Really to hot this weekend  but I worked 8 hrs yesterday and 6 today.

Going to mow one more patch then spray .  Grass and weeds in my bigger patches are growing back up from last cutting .  Should I cut again  or just spray? Using 42 percent glyphosate.

at this point spray with the gly... im guessing your going to plant early august want the weeds to sit a couple weeks after spraying and then till, drag or whatever

It’s time to spray to kill everything and fertilize.  After about a week til it and plant it before you expect rain.

plant before rain is a biggie also dont be surprised if you get weeds back after planting  spray only gets rid of the weeds that are visible now if this land hasnt been turned regularly it will support a large weed seed bank , thats another plus of brassica blend those plants grow fast and to a certain degree will out grow weeds and block sunlight

Finally  got plots sprayed . Three bags of lime on big plot 3 bags of Trip 19 . Smaller plot got a bag of lime and a bag of trip 19.  Smallest plot 

a bag of trip 19 and half bag of lime. Give it 2 weeks and disk and plant.

Just finished tilling 2  1/2 acre plots for some biologic Maximum.  Trying this for first time seems promising...time will tell. Every thing else planted last week is sprouting coming up.  This is when the bucks grow out and finish and start hitting plots by end of month.  60 days away

ive tried that also wi barrasica stuff and by the far the best ive found is frigid forage big n beasty

man wish i only needed that much lime spread 1640lbs  this summer using 40lb bags by hand 5 bags would fit on wheeler at a time

Man I wish I had your problem ... sounds  like your plot is as big as my entire property.

that was for just over 1/2 acre full acre called for 3, 750 lbs ph was 5.3

if i recall correctly 100 lbs of lime per 1000sqft  will only raise ph by .10 on avg

I would imagine I didn't lime enough.. if your numbers are correct  ... guess I will see how it grows . Next year things will be done earlier  soil tests  and prepping . This year I was more intent on clearing  and reclaiming  space.

getting areas cleared is a biggie, even in the 5.3 area things always grew  fairly well just not as lush and seemed to be spotty,  this was the 1st yr i got serious about lime after soil test lest yr

I think I'm lite on both lyme and fertilizer . Wonder if i  should pick up more trip 19 . Probably  to late to get benafit  of the lime any how.

The fall plot mix i just bought  recomends 250 lbs of trip 19 for 1/4  acre.

lime take months to take effect best bet is lime in spring after soil test one thing that surprised me after getting test done was how little fertilizer it called for was def wasting money before, if your plants start turning off colors give then some fertilizer then

Ok so my plans have changed ... I'm not working the property today . As i sit here watching the smoker I have been thinking about how to pack the seed on my 2 smaller plots . One will be next to impossible to roll. I'm wondering if my tractor with r4 tires will be able to do the job just driving back and forth .  I guess it could be too heavey. Loaded tires .. 2000 lbs total . What do you guys think.

The bigger plot has grass to contend with . I planned on mowing then disk as one spot is 12 inches  tall. Some have said seed then mow ... disk in . Will that blow the seed  and will disk crush the seed .

Not sure what to do .

Kill plot 1 

planted in a fall blend of brassica.. rape..kale.. clover .. turnips. 

kill plot 2 will get a blind and planted in fall blend. 

Big plot is red and white clover  and radish. September to be top seed winter rye.
