Wrong war, wrong holiday. 4th was the Revolutionary War. Battle for independence. 1776.

The Battle of Gettysburg was fought July 1–3, 1863, in and around the town of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, by Union and Confederate forces during the American Civil War. The battle involved the largest number of casualties of the entire war and is often described as the war's turning point. Wikipedia

On the morning of July 1, advance units of the forces came into contact with one another just outside of Gettysburg. The sound of battle attracted other units, and by noon the conflict was raging. During the first hours of battle, Union General John Reynolds was killed, and the Yankees found that they were outnumbered.

I visited Gettysburg for the first time a few years ago and planned only one day there.  I wish I had planned for more!  We had a private tour and learned so much more than just browsing around on our own.  Incredible experience, I need to go back, maybe during one of the re-enactment battles.

I've done reenactments there and am.actually in the extended version of the movie Gettysburg  riding calvary thru town. As my unit and many others were used in the film. The thing is they wore wool uniforms ( my uniform is light weight compared to the actual uniform they wore and it was in the 90s during the battle, wearing wool half the weight of a uniform is unbearable at times, cant imagine forced march and fighting for 3 days...
