Brother kills another brother in Michigan

26 yo Deer hunter in Michigan kills his 23 yo brother sitting in a deer blind. Very sad. There has gotta be more to this story.

thats why they need to put more orange on those blinds.That little 3 inch square isn't nothing.I pin a orange vest on the front and 1 on the back of my chair blind.But still,a stray bullet could still hit me.

Not saying that i disagree but who in their right mind could take a shot at a ground blind and really think their shooting at a deer or any animal for that.I just don't get how someone could be so stupid.It gives responsable hunters a really bad look!!

I think it was more along the lines of a missed shot at a deer and not seeing what was in the back stop.I may be wrong but its how i percieve it.

I think if there was an addequite amount of orange there the brother probably would of not shot in that direction.Well,I would hope any how.

Uh, he obviously wasnt paying enough attention to his background. I agree with those blinds needing orange on them. I have one, and if you brush it in a bit, and have some brush or bushes behind it, you cannot see it from a distance at all. I would never use my blind unless everyone who hunts the same piece of property knew exactly where it was, and I had some faith in those hunting there. Even then, I get a little nervous about other hunters when Im in my blind. They make blaze orange roof covers for those blinds, I personally think each and every blind should have to have one with it. The choice to use it would be yours, but they should not be an accessory. Its just like the safety harnesses that come with every treestand anymore.

I always put a couple of blaze vests on mine when I am in it so that others can see it easily. Even then, I get a little nervous at times.

Right, but I highly doubt he shot at the ground blind thinking its a deer. Unless the guy did it on purpose, the most reasonable, common sense explanation (in my opinion) is that the shooter wasnt paying attention to the back ground, and like I said, those blinds can be very hard to pick out, especially if brushed in. I guess common sense isnt as common as it should be.

Mecosta County MI News - Wednesday, November 16th, about 6:48 pm, Deputies from the Sheriff's Office were dispatched near 2-Mile Road and 85th Avenue in Hinton Township.

According to Detective Casey Nemeth, a 26-year-old Hinton Township man, Harry Weaver form Lakeview MI, was found fatally shot in his deer blind.

Nemeth said Weaver was pronounced dead at the scene, and the gunshot was fired by his 23-year-old younger brother, an Austin Township man who was hunting near by.

According to the sheriff's Department, the two Amish brothers were hunting. Harry was in a dear blind, and his younger brother was hunting in a nearby field. The younger brother was unaware of Harry being in the deer blind, and he took three shots with a rifle at a running deer, he missed the deer, but one of the bullets went several hundred yards across the field into the deer blind, and struck Harry in the head.

Unaware of this, the younger brother then went home. Harry Weaver was found later in the evening by other family members who became worried when he did not return to the house for chores.

According to a news release, the incident remains under investigation, and the Sheriff's Office is still awaiting ballistics from the Michigan State Police Crime Lab. Neither of the two Amish brothers were wearing orange hunting clothing.

A Morley Rescue unit, and an Alpha-2 EMS unit was on the scene with the Mecosta County Sheriff's Department.

sounds to me like he knew the blind was there, had no clue anyone was in it.. And the guy in the blind was not wearing orange go figure.

I have a ground blind that is well brushed in that I have walked right by when I was ready to use it ..... lol. I can't necessarily fault someone who accidentaly shoots into something that has been purposely and intentionally camoflaged to blend in with the background (if that's the way it was). I bought some blaze orange material specifically for the purpose of using one of my pop-up blinds during gun season. I haven't had occasion to use that kind of blind yet during gun, but without significant amounts of blaze orange, I would feel just as vulnerable sitting in one of those things as I would if I was foolish enough to go out in gun season dressed in camo (or anything other than blaze orange). I'm thinking the victim may have had more fault in this situation than the shooter. I know, we hear all the people parroting back the safety slogan we were all taught about being absolutely sure of the background before pulling the trigger. But unless you are an individual who only will shoot under target range safety conditions (fully cleared with an earthen backstop), you are never 100% sure that this sort of thing couldn't possibly happen.
