Dave
Is it legal to put out anise oil to attract bears? I know we can put out scents to attract deer. Never thought about this before want to be right.

WNYBuckHunter
As long as you use an ounce or less at a time, you should be just fine. Same thing as using a honey burn or other scent attractant.
growalot
The law reads.....Q: Can I use bait to hunt bears? A: No. You may only use up to 1.5 fluid ounces of a liquid scent or lure. I had a reg 9 Capt. tell me that due to the wording of the law....once you take say scent free cotton cloth and soak it in the lure....that lure is no longer in " LIQUID" form thus you being able to use more lure or scent.......Now unless a ECO can wring out more than 1.5 ounces from the scented material you are hunting legal Edited November 29, 2011 by growalot

To Dave---bull up any infor or videos you can find on "honey burn" I think you would find it works pretty well.
growalot
All I can say is thats what he told me...also said he knows guys that set up a grill and slowly fry up their breakfast in the middle of the woods ...as they quietly relax in the ground blind....as long as the bacon and sausage is grilled and can be used for human consumption...their is no law against grilling in the woods...if a bear happens by..they can legally shoot then have breakfast...Now that I had to laugh...a bit over the top but there ya go! But it does change...as long as the cloth is dry...now I take wood chips used for smoking...I fry up bacon through out the summer and pour the hot grease over the wood chips...they really soak up a lot...I have a throw away grill that I take out with a grate...light the smoking wood chips and they give off a bacon smell in the smoke ..which lasts a while in the woods...as long as it's not edible...do to being on fire I'm good to go.... First-light
W planted it and it did not last long. Deer and Bear loved it.
Top ramen
What was most annoying was a trail to Mitchell Ponds last year. Every 100 tards or so was someones 'bait pile' of candy corns and grease, apple puree, honey drizzle. I could hardly imagine any useful baiting in this manner due to infrequent placement and long unorganized spread of bear goodies. In the states that allow baiting, they replenish established sites over weeks to build up a routine with the bear population. I quess it is not worth the legal trouble of baiting, and especially not worth it if you do it half way. We can use 1.5oz of scent.
