airedale
I have been involved in legislative hunting issues for many years and know how these folks operate, I suggest that the folks here take them seriously. Take a moment to look over what spews proudly from their own mouths. Hunting, Fishing, Farming, Trapping and Pet Ownership all are targets and believe me they are not fooling around. One more thing although they can not publicly endorse any political party because of Tax status, but it is no secret they overwhelmingly support and vote for Democrats and expect and get favors for doing so. http://www.naiaonline.org/naia-library/articles/quotes-from-the-leaders-of-the-animal-rights-movement/ Edited August 30, 2020 by airedale

wolc123
I am interested in starting a vegetable rights group. Who is looking out for them ? They are completely defenseless and unable to escape slaughter on their own. I prefer to subsist on a straight wild game diet like the Inuits do. 4

airedale
Because of my involvement with hunting dogs the main adversary for me has been HSUS because they have directly affected hunting with dogs throughout the country. They have closed down hunting with Hounds in California for just about everything, Bear, Lion, Bobcat etc. and seriously limited Hound use for hunting in several other western states. I watched them successfully shut down Bear hunting with Dogs right here in NY state. As I previously mentioned they will target what they perceive to be the weakest link and bring on the assault. There were only a few folks that hunted Bear in NY with dogs so they were an easy mark. I myself am no Bear hunter but I got into the fray because I am a big believer that the outdoor sports are all interconnected with each other and as Ben Franklin put well "Hang together or hang separately!" When any part of the outdoor life comes under attack I try my best to help and do something and the excuse I hear sometimes for doing nothing "it don't effect me." That is lame because believe me your turn is coming and they will be after you eventually. We had a good man named Mike Bragman that introduced a Bill to reinstate Bear hunting with dogs, this was over thirty years ago there were no computers and email. We sent letters got on the phones and asked for support from everyone involved in the outdoors. It was a tough fight but we got that bill passed though the gauntlet and on to the Governor's desk and signature who happened to be the first king Cuomo "Mario"! Well guess what, instead of siding with his own people he fell in step with the outside pressure of HSUS and refused to sign it. So there you go! I will end it here because Geenhunter will be getting after me for a long post but believe me there are plenty more incidents of animal rights incursion on our sport, right now "trapping" is their big focus. I have listed a few of their quotes below and one can plainly see their plan of attack and I can tell you all first hand that it works so take them seriously and remember they are Democrats! Al ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "We are going to use the ballot box and the democratic process to stop all hunting in the United States ... We will take it species by species until all hunting is stopped in California. Then we will take it state by state. Wayne Pacelle, Senior VP Humane Society of the US (HSUS), formerly of Friends of Animals and Fund for Animals, Full Cry Magazine, October 1, 1990. "As a matter of principle, The HSUS opposes the hunting of any living creature for fun, trophy, or sport because of the animal trauma, suffering, and death that result." Retrieved April 4, 2012, from the policy statements on HSUS' website “The entire animal rights movement in the United States reacted with unfettered glee at the Ban in England ...We view this act of parliament as one of the most important actions in the history of the animal rights movement. This will energise our efforts to stop hunting with hounds.” Wayne Pacelle, CEO, Humane Society of the US (HSUS), London Times, December 26, 2004 "If we could shut down all sport hunting in a moment, we would." Wayne Pacelle, Senior VP Humane Society of the US (HSUS), formerly of Friends of Animals and Fund for Animals, Associated Press, Dec 30, 1991 "Our goal is to get sport hunting in the same category as cock fighting and dog fighting." Wayne Pacelle, Senior VP Humane Society of the US (HSUS), formerly of Friends of Animals and Fund for Animals, (Bozeman (MT) Daily Chronicle, October 8, 1991
left field
Talking about the HSUS, here is a debate from a few years ago: Hunters Conserve Wildlife. https://www.intelligencesquaredus.org/debates/hunters-conserve-wildlife For the motion were: Anthony Licata is the editor-in-chief of Field & Stream, America's largest outdoor sports magazine brand, with an audience of over 9 million hunters and fishermen.
