Pygmy
Good luck on the piggies. I'm headed down to SE Georgia Feb 17th. I hunt on a friend's deer lease. The hunting is free except for expenses getting there and back. The hunt is no slam dunk, since the hogs are wild and free ranging. No guarantee of kills and the hunting is quite challenging. We generally kill 2 or 3 hogs between 3 or 4 hunters, but it is nice country, the weather is generally pleasant and it is a nice getaway. My buddies and I plan to hunt three days over president's Day weekend. One of the highlights of the trip is to stop at one of those out of the way small town diners where there are about 3 or 4 big, fat black women working in the kitchen. Those are the places where you can get REAL southern fried chicken and other local delicacies, generally fried in genuine LARD....YUM..!.. I can feel my arteries clogging just THINKING about it.. biggamefish
Well I got back from my pig trip. Saw some nice hogs and the second to last day I put a good stalk on a group. I got within 20 yards and had a shot took it and wham. I hit him. I aimed for the far shoulder because he was slightly quartering away from me. Well after a 300 yard blood trail and a grid search of the area I had to come back to new york pigless. I hit the far shoulder with my arrow the braodhead stayed in the far shoulder but I got the arrow back. I guess that is how it goes. Kinda made me sick to my stomach leaving the pig knowing I had hit him like that.
Pygmy
Tough luck on losing the piggie..They are some pretty resiliant critters..But Hey..That's hunting.. How was the trip than that.?.Accomodations, chow, etc ? What part of South Carolina is it in ?...Would you do the hunt again or reccomend it to others ? biggamefish
The trip was good. I had a great time and it was a good group of people. The accomidations wher a basic hunting camp no frills nothing special. It was a dry place with air conditioning and some beds to lay down. After hunting all day long that is what you need. The food was good amd lots of it if you went away hungry it was your own fault. We where down on the border of south carolina and georgia. The closest town was Estill S.C. We all had a blast saw a ton of deer some coyotes and some pigs. I would go back again for sure. The only thing I would change was the info we got. The guy running the place kinda just sent us out on the property and said get a pig. He gave the spots they would be but never hunting pigs before we could have had a better tutorial of how to go about it.
