ants
Im thinking about buying one of these saiga rifles. The recievers are marked "made in Russia" and look just like AK receivers. They seem to be well built. Anyone have one? or have an opinion on them? The one I looked at was just under $400...Junk???
WNYBuckHunter
Nothing junk about them, they are nice guns. I'd like to pick up a 12ga to build a tactical/defense style shotgun with.
ants
Thanks I think I'll buy one (.223) and sneak it in while the wife is at work.....
WNYBuckHunter
Hahaha there ya go! There's a ton of accessories and replacement stuff for them.
RobC
I've heard good things about them. I actually shot one in a 410. They're a lot of fun. The show Sons of Guns or Red Jacket which is the business name deals exclusively in saga firearms.
WNYBuckHunter
They don't deal exclusively in Saigas, but they are a good portion of their business. They have some pretty sweet Saiga setups that they sell. Get your checkbook ready for the hit from one of their builds though.
ants
I was at the range yesterday and a guy showed up with one. He raved about it. He had a folding pistol grip stock and a scope on it. It was sweet . Im sold
WNYBuckHunter
I hope that folding stock was pinned. Make sure you are up on NY's "assault weapon" laws before you start doing too much work on it, or even buy one. If you need any assistance looking up the regs, let me know I can point you in the right direction.
ants
Thanks. I did't even think of that
WNYBuckHunter
No problem. Basically, since the Saiga has a removable magazine, you can only add on one more "evil feature" according to NY. If it has a pistol grip, youd better not have an adjustable stock, or it must be pinned into place. Also, another common one is a flash hider. Make sure it doesnt have a flash hider, it can however, have a compensator or muzzle break. Bayonet lug would be a no no too. Gotta love NY.... RobC
I might be wrong but I didn't think you could have an adjustable stock at all on a semi automatic rifle of any kind.
carloracer1987
my .22 has a pistol grip and folding stock but i bought it that way lol
ants
All these restrictions should finally keep guns away from gang bangers and other scum!!! ( Kiding -LOL)
WNYBuckHunter
I might be wrong but I didn't think you could have an adjustable stock at all on a semi automatic rifle of any kind. I believe if it doesnt feature 2 of the other evil features, or is pre-ban it can. Ill double check on that.
WNYBuckHunter
my .22 has a pistol grip and folding stock but i bought it that way lol If it has a detachable magazine or isnt pre-ban, you should get the stock pinned.
WNYBuckHunter
To be an assault rifle and therefore illegal in NY state, the firearm must be: 1. Semiautomatic 2. Accept a detachable magazine 3. Manufactured after September 14, 1994 4. Has two or more of the following: Telescoping or folding stock Pistol grip Bayonet mount Flash suppressor (this does NOT include a muzzle brake) OR a threaded barrel Grenade launcher The sections in this link to read are 265.00, 265.10 and 265.20 http://public.leginfo.state.ny.us/LAWSSEAF.cgi?+&QUERYDATA=assault%20weapons+&SEARCH=SEA+&BROWSER=BROWSER+&TOKEN=41655483&TARGET=VIEW
ants
Bought it the other day and got it in the house just before the Mrs. got home....like 3 mins to spare. I'll let you guys know how it shoots ASAP. Buckhunter.... I was in a gun shop today, looking for mags for it, and they had a telescoping stock for it that came with a pistol grip in the same package...$80.00. Am I good with it? The guy said Yes... or is he FOS Edited March 2, 2012 by ants
WNYBuckHunter
If you have it pinned, youll be ok. You can not leave it adjustible because yo u then have a semi auto with a detachable mag, pistol grip and telescoping stock, 1 "evil feature" too many.
