Hunterny28
Do to a growing family and budget I found my self In a SUV. I was wondering if any of you guys have had experience or known of people using a trailer hitch cargo carrier. I figured If I wrapped it up that it would stay clean from the road. I need the space in the SUV to carry people and gear/equipment. Thanks http://www.discountramps.com/folding-cargo-carrier.htm
WNYBuckHunter
Ive used them before, they work fine, just put a tarp around it and strap the deer down well.
Lawdwaz
Put the gear on the hitch haul and the deer inside!
NYbuck50
I have one also.. The tarp works good to keep road junk off your deer as well as keep it wrapped up to not give the anti's any more reason to whine at us.. Also, be careful walking around the truck in the dark, mine has left more than its fair share of shin bruises on me and my hunting buddies
Hunterny28
thanks, just wanted to confirm that it would work like I thought. I have one also.. The tarp works good to keep road junk off your deer as well as keep it wrapped up to not give the anti's any more reason to whine at us.. Also, be careful walking around the truck in the dark, mine has left more than its fair share of shin bruises on me and my hunting buddies that is why I am getting the one that folds up. Remembering to fold it back up is the hard part. I will let you know how my shins are after next deer season!
pistolp71
Put the gear on the hitch haul and the deer inside! Really? Why?
wooffer
Dad used to just tie to the roof when he brought it home. Surprisingly no one ever bothered it while it was parked in queens overnight. Don't think that will fly today. On the roof okay, not leaving the deer on it overnight.
stillhunter
I have one that folds up. Makes it a little easier to back up and to turn around on the old logging roads that I use.
jusputtn
Or you could field butcher, put the steak meat & roasts in one garbage bag, put the stew/hamburger meat in another, toss them in a cooler and finish the trimming, cutting & wrapping at home. I used to have an S-10 blazer that I'd hang a deer off the back of by running a rope through the back of the roof rack. Real tough getting the thing hung by myself though. I'd be concerned the rope might rough up the clear coat too.
Nomad
Now that I'm getting rid of my mini van I will be getting one of these as well for my car. For 20 years i've hunted out of a mini van.I take all the middle and rear seats out ,cut a piece of carpet to fit. I keep 2 totes of clothes and gear in it, sleep in it,get dressed inside it.With the electric door its closes with very little noise.Oh and not bad MPG I use a trap and bring a few deer a year home inside it. Oh and with two large sliding doors and low ground clearance its easy for one guy to load 'em ! i'm going to miss all that, really a perfect hunting vehicle. I know not cool or manly for those that need that. Now it'll be a Civic with hitch hauler ! the 2 inch ones say 500# weight limit, now your good to go deer wise,if you start using it for other stuff, make sure you got a class 3,4,or 5 hitch, not 1 or 2 they are not rated for 500 # Edited March 18, 2012 by Larry302

Not sure I would recommend garbage bags, aren't they chemically treated? I don't want that stuff on my meat. As far as the cargo hauler, I use it all the time they work great, look at tractor supply stores they have good prices too....
