Muzzleloading question

Never really though of this, but just thought about it with a friend.

Topic- Distance from a house to discharge a muzzleloader hunting. NYS, does not anywhere that I can see give a definite answer.

his view- Its the same as a crossbow and the 250 feet would apply.

mine- A muzzle loader would be treated the same as a firearm and 500 feet would apply.

Any thoughts?

You would be right 500ft for the muzzy..you may not find it in the regs but best believe  its one of those cite you for it and fight ya in court things..

Oddly enough a muzzle loader dont become a firearm until a primer is put in the barrel which is why you can drive around with it loaded...same goes for muzzloader pistols u dont need a permit for them unless you have the components to make them fire like powder and such

That's my logic. But even then with a primer on it, a muzzle loader is still not a firearm under law. It is a loaded muzzleloader with  the primer on. Similar to a cocked crossbow in a vehicle.

With a MZ pistol do you need to file an amendment and put it on your lic if you have the components and intend to shoot it? Always wanted one just to play around with

Yes, you can buy a mz pistol without a permit, but before you possess the firing components you must have on your permit.

Yes, as soon as you possess the components to fire, it needs to be on your permit. If I remember right you just need to take your sales receipt to the pistol office to have it added. Other than that they'll deliver right to your front door.
