Antler Restrictions - What are your thoughts?

Exactly Joe - easy to talk, harder to walk. And a points based AR still lets them feel good about shooting a buck no older then the spike that was with him.

Yup.. I have never liked the 3 on a side point restriction... although it does make a guy take a second look at a buck before shooting it.. maybe it's a start?

I think most would consider just a goal - one of my biggest reason for opposition.

I say I hunt to feed my family.  That does not mean I need to. My family likes venison.  If I did not plan to eat the deer,  I would not shoot the deer.  However, if I needed the meat to eat, I would take the 100 bucks I spend for a license, the hundreds on a gun and equipment and buy meat.  I also grow a garden to feed my family.  Not out of necessity, out of the fact I like fresh vegetables.

Yeh - lets take a little over 200 replies (out of 200,000 potential) on a poll as unscientific as it gets and base a management program on it. That's as emotional a management scheme as it gets - especially when the DEC biologists have repeatedly stated there is no biological need.

Can they answer why we need crossbows or rifles then? Or better yet..heres an advanced one.....what is the approximate deer population and take for any given wildlife unit?

Fair chase does not mean getting within 20 yards of an animal.

I shot my buck this year at 40 yards. seems pretty fair to me.

Why use a rifle if you can get  so close..seems like overkill

I usually use a ml.  I use a rifle on occasion because I can. Have you ever hunter deer with a rifle?  If not seems like having an opinion or passing judgement, on something you have not done has no basis in reality.

I used it just in case I had a big boy out in the distance. Never know.... Plus it makes 100 yard shots a chip. Just. My preference really...

if you get a good buck within 150 yards in the adks where you can tell its a buck and actually can get a bullet to it.. i'd say that was fair chase

Nope..never used a rifle..dont want to..biggest rifle i own is a 22 mag..that i use for fox and yote..i guess taking a long shot aint my thang..i like to be close enough to smell the deer im gonna take...any ding dong can take a long shot..but i dont concider a chance long shot sighting to be a hunt..more of a cheap shot

If you  need to squeeze out long shots..id get a better spot..i took that deer with the gun at 10 yds..my thoughts afterwards were why didnt  i have the bow..i dont even hunt turnkeys with the gun anymore..now im lookin into recurving..guns dont excite me..working a good setup does

so is sitting on the edge of an alfalfa field working a good set up?  I hunt in the woods and swamps where the deer live, not wait until they come to where they eat. In the woods, a 50 yard shot is a long one.  There are things like trees and stuff. I also hunt from the ground most of the time.  So, I would say I do more actual hunting than you do by waiting by the alfalfa by your own admission in the baiting thread.

Those are some good spots wouldnt ya say..however you assume far too much..i still hunt all over this postage stamp..those are good spots to start at..but if the wind is wrong...or how bout my video this yr..i cant make out any fields in them there hardwoods..
