  1. I just used them today on a one lung and liver hit. There was good blood for about 150 yds the 2 bb size drops. They met me at 10 am and the little dachshound found him 50 minutes later. The handler was a woman out of Liverpool NY. The little dachshound did a great job. She told me they can track them even after a rain storm. I was impressed!!!!!!!!!!

  3. Great choice! I like the new SD (sound deadening) tech, and have been thinking of doing it on my stand. Basically, its foam insulation inside the tubes. Youre gonna love that stand!

  4. I dated someone from Mich and when she was here she thought that they were just cartoons and not real. She said they didn't have them out there. I thought it was funny.

  5. Was it a mature horse, or just a 2 1/2 year old? I probably would have let him walk for another year.

  7. So what you are saying is that you believe that because Im a moderator, that I shouldnt be allowed to disagree with someone or defend myself when being accused of basically being a poacher? Im a member here just like everyone else and enjoy participating, just like everyone else. It doesnt make the site look bad. If you actually go back and look at what I posted in this thread, my first post was to try and help the OP out by suggesting he call Deer Search. After that, I let everything go until I couldnt take being called a poacher any longer. At that point, I posted information that cleared up the issue, and in no way was I derogatory toward anyone when I did it. I also gave my opinion on the shot in a non-accusing, polite way. I suggest you take your own advice and PM me if you have something like this to say instead of clogging up a thread with your accusations.

  8. It qualifies as antlerless as it does not have any points exceeding 3 inches. I believe three inches is the limit. So you would use your antlerless tag. And six points is an antler restriction that is applied in some hunting areas. Most areas do not have antler restrictions and you can therefore take any buck. If you shoot a fawn you should use an antlerless tag. Check the WMU that you hunt for any special regulations or antler restrictions. Looks too big to be a button buck to me.

  9. Nothing but stinger cut on contact for this guy!!! I have a swithback at 60lbs and have blown through many and this year i broke my collar bone on the 28th of sept and after a month it was for sure i was not using that bow. I went out and bought a little boys boy..A Sidekick.. I could only pull back 38lbs so thats what i went to the tier with. I was worried crapless about penatration if i got a chance at a buck.Well long story short i took that 198lbs 8pt and at 22yds with that stinger i got 6 inches of behind the shoulder meat with no pass through. Not a great bloodtrail with one hole but man did that 6in do some damadge on the inside.I guess low pound bows should shoot cut on contacts.Either way they have to be cut yur butt..SHARP!!!!

  10. this is by far a hotly debated topic and it goes way deeper then the braodhead being shot although there are some broad heads that are not miracles but maybe can be the difference between a lost deer on a MARGINAL shot. I think the BIGGEST factor that equates to lost deer in my opinion does not narrow down the broad head nor arrow weight. I believe its hunters who may mis judge a few important variables: 1) Elevation and Distance 2) was the deer quatering to or broadside and THIS i think is why alot of deer are lost each year due to hunters not being able to properly read how that deer is positioned and be able to place a shot accordingly. A qautering to deer is NOT the same angle as broadside or quartering away. i think shot angles are most often mis judges. 3) Not giving deer the proper time to expire and or know the difference between pursuing a blood trail and knowing when to back out. i im pretty sure you can kill a deer with a field tip if placed properly... i personally shoot rage broad heads persoanlly because i have tried about a dozen different heads and i happen to like this one the best, plain and simple. It doesnt mean i can get away with placing a crap shot on a deer in hopes of finding it. i think your equipment is key by far and i am also a firm beleiver on practice practice paractice ALSO having the hunter know how on what to do and when to do it. ALL of this is essential in the recovery of any animal regardless what we shoot. You give me a dull broad head right now and a 20 yard shot and i grant you with my bow i will no doubt get a clean passthrough if hit in the right spot, completely broadside and not hitting an off shoulder, that deer will go down.... ALOT of education comes from personal seat time and years of experience along with the willingness to learn and try things. Ive been bow hunting for 17 years now and lost 1 deer, swrore it wont happen again but i can not guarantee it. i do know i can use all my essentials i have learned in my bow career and put them to the test!!

  11. You need to change your strategy from hunting natural movement to hunting pressured deer. Find a pinch point or funnel that pressured deer are going to use when the s#@t hits the fan on opening day. Don't count on the deer to continue with their normal feeding habits and movement patterns.

  12. Regarding this topic I must mention that a treestand fall death touched our family very closely last year, and I am probably in a pretty good position to point out that these kinds of incidents do not simply affect those that are killed or maimed from treestand falls. That lapse in judgement affects all kinds of people that surround our lives. It's not just a single victim incident. So just like anything in hunting (or anything else in life) that involves safety, it's not only our lives that are impacted by those choices when things go bad. I have seen the pain and anguish on the faces of those loved ones who had to carry on after such a tragedy. So for those that may be considering foregoing safety equipment I would just like to say that there are many others to consider besides yourself. No, you cannot insulate yourself from all harm, but there are some things that you can easily apply to hunting safety. It seems unnecessary to take risks that you don't have to. You owe it to your family to use whatever hunter safety equipment that is available.

  13. I couldn't have said it better myself wdswtr!! This site would probably be the last place I would seek advice for anything. I have learned a lot from the site but it has been through reading and certainaly not through asking questions!! I have never seen a group of people that fight amongst each other like hunters do. I'm sure the OP felt bad enough about his situation then a few members of the forum feel the need to make him feel worse. All I can say about the situation is no one can ever really say for sure weather they would shoot or not shoot in any given situation unless they were actually there! If there are hunters out there that have never wounded a deer I am more than willing to bet they have never shot at many because it is just an unfortunate part of hunting, it comes with the turf. Even if we do are very best not to wound animals, mistakes happen.
