Nailed this one at 1120 this morning, just got done dragging her out.

Went squirrel hunting. Found these instead. Saw a ton of pheasant hunters with dogs. We talked to them and they said they didn't see anything all day. Go figure. Here they are with dogs and they couldn't find anything and I come walking along and I limit out by finding two on two different occasions. Lady luck smiled at me today but you can have all the luck in the world and you still won't catch anything from your couch. Gave the hen away and took the male (I will avoid the "c" word - my reputation here will taint it) to my dad. He whipped up some awesome teriyaki pheasant.

WOW, Whitetail freak and Geno have a little bad blood? Its sounds like you just knicked him and hes fine but it never hurts to do a little more walking because you never know

I hope i'm wrong but i think Geno has thought this through and came up with a pretty good assessment of what happened. Nothing i've read indicates anything different then a grazed deer that will be chasing the women(does) maybe by today.

Not true at all. The fawns have all acquired their survival skills over their first few months of life. Nature has designed them to grow up quickly in a unforgiving/harsh world. The male fawns typical buddy up with other buck fawns over the winter but doe fawns will stay with their mothers in groups consisting of realted females for their entire lives.

GRC take care of that shoulder and you will be able to shoot a recurve with out a problem. I also shot a recurve for a long time 43lbs @ 29 5/8 inches. Killed many deer with it. JUst don't push it to fast or you will be back getting more surgery

People who own businesses this size close the doors every year. It is not uncommon. They sometimes go bankrupt too. Educate yourself on the subject prior to posting foolishness. None of his employees were FORCED to work for him, they chose to do it! If they were worth more money than he generously agreed to pay them for their time, why didn't they seek a job elsewhere? THEY OWE HIM EVERTHING THEY HAVE! Without that job, they may not have had one. And if they quit, there are hundreds of unemployed people waiting for a job opening that would appreciate the chance to work for the man. If an employee of mine told me what you just posted, I'd fire the a-hole for being too arrogant and stupid to trust as an employee in my company.

Seeing that this is your first year hunting, ever consider going after small game while you wait for deer gun special on LI?

I know people seem to be "reporting" this info, but please keep in mind that a buck is ready to breed year-round. They get agitated at this time of year and will do some "seeking/chasing" behavior, but the does are not ready/willing. Sure a doe or two may have come in early as she is an early estrous doe...but just be skeptic about the rut coming "early" as people like to say most years. The real rut data doesn't change much...just what we see of it. One doe in estrous in the area could make bucks go bonkers no doubt, tailing and checking any doe that cross his path or nose.

he never said anything about closing his doors and walking away.... he said everything about downsizing and cutting back. and your way of thinking is very hard to understand.... first off if it wasnt for him that business wouldnt exist, everyone who takes stock in his business as an employee or outside supplier or anything else youd like to throw in there, wouldnt have a job or a contract or way to make money if it wasnt for him, so why shouldnt he get rich?? wasnt it his brainchild, his idea, and his way of doing business in the first place? is he not allowed to be rewarded for such an accomplishment, for working hard, for being successful and making others successful as well? should there be no incentive for people to succeed. the way i interpret your post is that everyone from top to bottom should be making the same buck at the end of the week. wheres the incentive? and if youd like to keep on with the argument that he owes his employees everything, i could fire right back and say yea your right... exactly why he sent that letter to all his employees in the first place!!!!

Hopefully, some of these guys visit first week of November.

Sunday afternoon also yielded not a single deer. Slept in mon am. Def will be hunting fri am looks like first real cold snap.

I was in sterling opening day bow this year, I was deer hunting in a bow only area off a field edge about 200 yards from the parking area, I heard noise behind me and turned around I saw a decent sized black bear walking through some brush. I drew my bow and waited for her to show her vitals. I took a shot that aparently hit a twig and deflected off to the left. I nocked another arrow and drew again because she seemed un disturbed by the first shot. Right before I pulled the trigger on the release I saw movement behind her and stopped my shot as I saw a tiny cub emerge from the brush. Thank god I missed the first time I would have been heartbroken if I saw the cub after killing her. He was walking a wobbly reminded me of belu from the jungle book.. I tried to get my phone out to take pics but before I could they were gone

Its a fucking shame when a hero drops to a knee and bows out. As Americans we owe it to our protectors for letting us do the things we love. Cops are heros as well and are long overlooked for there service to our country. They are the heros in the night and although a traffic ticket might upset you after a long day of work, you would be very happy to hear the siren and lights tearing through the night to your rescue when a man breaks into your home in the night with the intentions of hurting the ones you love. To my fellow military and police i salute you.

I shot a doe with twin button-bucks last night. The fawns are perfectly capable of surving on their own now with most being around 4 months old. Biologist agree that at 90-100 days old a fawn is now considered "a deer" with a fully formed digestive tract and a diet identical to that of an adult deer. Her milk was all dried up. This may seem a bit cold-hearted but the truth is a fawn is nothing like a human child...nature designed them to grow up quickly in a hostile world...they will get along just fine without their mothers's guidance at this stage in their lives. After all, how many lone button bucks do you see wandering around by themselves during bow season...lots of 'em!!!

It depends on show small the fawns are. If I'm sure they will be fine on their own, I'd take the shot. The mother's will be wanting to get rid of them soon anyway so they can mate again. This assumes I have no meat for the year. If I already have meat in the freezer, I'd probably give her a pass.
