  1. Here's some similar questions I asked last year. Mr. , Thanks for your comments on deer management in New York. Our data from WMU 4H indicates that the deer population is about 25% below the target level, so our management action has been for conservative antlerless harvest. Our target DMP issuance for this year was 1,100 tags, the same as last year, yet we typically have about 5,000 applicants interested in those tags. So we are only able to issue DMPs in 4H to applicants with preference points. Jeremy Hurst Wildlife Biologist NYSDEC, Bureau of Wildlife 625 Broadway, 5th Floor Albany, NY 12233 Phone: 518-402-8867 Fax: 518-402-8925 [email protected] 10/15/2009 4:50 PM >>> 1) I’d like to know why preference points are required for a DMP in 4H? Its seems to have a good deer per square mile ratio. 2) Is there any hope of using rifles on the Partridge Run/ West side of Albany County (4H)? It is much less densely populated than other counties where rifles are legal. 3) I personally feel that lowering the legal discharge distance for a compound bow to 200 ft will increase the hunting opportunity (decrease deer population) significantly in many areas. Thank you for your time,
  2. Yes, from a house, home, dwelling , or occupied schoolfarm church, it's silly. You just can't shoot across the road.
  3. [email protected] Email this guy. Jeremy Hurst, NY DEC biologist. He'll give you the rundown.
  4. 500 feet = 166.66 yards. I believe that most people don't realize that the regs are the same for bow as does for gun. Thus less complaints. I see lots of bow targets that are in neighborhoods with less than 1 acre lots??? ??? I also think that it could increase the "hunting opportunity" in many areas. How does everyone feel about this? Pros/cons? Please share...
  5. I make it sound like there's a party goin' on LOL! "hey boys I'm frisky"-doe bleat " two guys fighting"- rattling "who's in my woods?" - deep grunt "help I'm dying!" - distress bleat We have food (trails end 307), women (estrous doe -P), and guys that wanna fight (dominant buck urine) and everyone's invited, no admission fee! p.s. you all know you'd come to my party if it was human things
  6. This one's even better!
  7. 2005 Darton Avalanche Extreme in Realtree Hardwoods. I hear Darton is the most underated bow manufacturer and that they own alot of patents, and that they've helped Bowtech, mathews, PSE, and Hoyt with problems on their new bows during R & D. Supposedly darton doesn't advertise as heavy as the others because they collect on the use of their (Darton's) patents. Actually, if anyone knows about any of this, please comment. Funny thing is, it was a xmas gift in '06. It was the last Darton to leave one of the local big box stores because darton refused to make a cheaper bow for them to exclusively sell. (dick's or gander). the first arrows didn't even fly thru it until LAST FALL! (2009) I'm happy with it. It fits me perfect (29'' draw) thanks to a good bro-in-law and wife. She didn't even know that all my camo was RT Hardwoods either.
  8. Only 3 people are allowed at the east fishkill spot (I don't own it). What I'm saying is if anyone ever wants to hang out and shoot some targets or whatever, it would be cool to hear what local guys have to share. I'm sure we could find a place. Fishing season is still open. I'm hard pressed for time as it is. One day I will own more land... P.S. I used to live in Cortlandt too. Near Putnam Valley.
  9. Dutchess, East Fishkill near 84 and Lime Kiln Rd. Wappingers, near the airport (sometimes). You guys ever want to get together, lemme know.
  10. Welcome DRWost. Did you ever fill that doe tag I signed over? I forget.
  11. If you turn the volume down it's even more entertaining. I dont understand how anyone can sit through those shows and listen to them bitch and moan. No thanks, one wife is enough, let alone 4 of them! Achievement without accomplishment.
  12. I'm just pointing out that it does not legally aplly to us (although it should)... BTW OSHA doesn't "approve" anything either, organizations like ANSI and ASTM create regs/standards that must be met by manufacturers. All the OSHA regs refer to "per the manufacturer's recomended use", and the manufacturer must meet the ANSI regs. When I took one of my courses, the instructor offered a bet if anyone could find an OSHA approved device,he'd give $100 or something to that affect. I'm still looking! So what do all the guys that use 2-piece climber treestands do? The beauty of a climber is mobility from spot to spot, no?
  13. OSHA only applies to work, hence "occupational".
  14. I'm actually not so sure myself. After seeing some deer with that in mind, I couldn't really tell.
  15. How about a crossbow and an antler with 3 points on one side! j/k
  16. I've heard that bucks drag their back feet.
