Excellent hunting. The .204 has it's limitations, one being lost prey when not hit perfectly. Nature of the little beast, but I'll bet it died later on.

Thanks. It's funny, it was headed to the right side and when I switched from my spotter to the scope, I lost it and then found it had cut back to the left down a trail we cut with the brush hog. Thermal has it's limitations, but as you know, it has many advantages and I feel like I'm hunting blind when I only go out with night vision, even Gen 3 NV. I did introduce one of my brothers to the joy of driving at night with the PVS7's in his new Tracker EV. I had to make sure it was packed away in my bag before heading home !

Had one come in and it hightailed outa dodge across the far field. I noticed this one coming through the tall grass and the 35 grn HP dropped it like a hot potato at 75 yards. Had a one more come in the next evening, but couldn't get a shot because of the leaf cover. A very lucky dog. I was hunting out of a ladder stand because the grass is so high in that area.

Like us, predators want to stay dry and have every condition in their favor, unless their starving. I've never had good luck hunting in crappy weather, but have had great success after the crappy weather had passed and calmed down. Coyote are very wind conscience and don't like it when they can't get downwind of their prey.

Head, neck, body, doesn't matter, as long as it gets a splotch in one of those places.

I postponed my bow hunting because of a reoccurring elbow injury, and it also interrupted my grouse hunting, so I bird hunt in the day and coyote hunt at night. I also get to scout for deer and coyote while walking around with my old bird dog. My brother was scared to let his dog out last night because a couple of coyote packs were lurking around, making a hell of a ruckus. He held the phone out for me to hear and they were really close. The neighbor said he saw one in the hay field across the road yesterday Am and it's body was above the grass, which is up to his knees, so he thinks it's a coy dog. I'm going to give them a wake up call Thursday night.

Went to the range yesterday afternoon and confirmed my thermal's are all sighted in and ready to go. All thermal and NV spotters too, plus checked my E caller and even practiced with the reed calls on the way back down from the range. Batteries charged, magazines loaded and I'm even gonna load some extra rounds during the week. Going to get my hunting license today and do some interweb searching for a foxpro fusion caller, as I'm in need of a caller upgrade and I like the bigger screen of the TX1000 controller better than the TX9 wildfire controller. With the fusion, you can program call sequences and focus on looking for prey, not worrying about the caller. Looking to take Friday off from work and head upstate Thursday PM and get down to business right away. Remember that the season starts after sunrise on the 1st, not midnight. Good luck. SJC

Actually that's not true, he did do something, he got filthy rich selling US jobs to China and Ukraine. Chef, Glad your OK and it's good to know that your safety harness works when needed. I've never used or seen a hawk stand, but they look nice and reviewers seem to like them. G-Man- Ladder stands aren't meant to be left out in the weather all year long for years on end, without proper maintenance or protective measures. With proper maintenance and/or protective measures, a ladder stand should last a lifetime and many of mine are over 20 years old now.

I think my old 4x photon scope would melt if I used it with the cannon ! It looks like you've got your rig all set up and ready to rock. Any actual night shooting done with it yet ? I'm also waiting for Oct to roll around and haven't had any nusience calls to take care of lately, so I spend my nights roaming around the neighborhood on my mountain bike with NVG's scaring the crap out of deer.

Congrats on the new scope. Teamed up with the .204, you should do well this year. Get some extra batteries or an external power pak, as the batteries don't last as long as pulsar says they do and it would suck to have it die before you get to make something else die. SJC

I used to sit for hours shooting chucks all weekend after cutting the hay at my relatives farm. Now I sit for hours in a lazy boy, after taking some aspirin and nursing a cold beer or two. .22 hornet was my caliber of choice, then I moved up to a heavy barreled 6mm rem 40XC to make the longer shots. Now I just carry my 44 mag revolver and let one or two shot's fly, if I see one running around. They have a better chance of getting hit by lightning, than getting hit by one of my shots, but it breaks the monotony of sitting on the tractor for hours.
