  2. I think FL is pretty darn close on the weight guesses . But Im going to add some . The 1st one ( 6/16/23 ) I think it is 205 -215 lbs dressed , The second one (6/6/23 ) is 305 -320 lbs dressed . I've seen enough of them weighed in up in Maine . They always weigh more than they look.
  3. Its great advice on the savings buying the 10 percent and mix your own . I have done it for a few years. I actually make mine just a bit stronger at .6 -.7 percent than the .5 percent pre-mixed Sawyers. I just use the old Sawyers spray bottles to apply it . I wear mostly coveralls for hunting. I give the outside a complete heavy dose at the beginning of the season , and a light spray after 2 washes even though they claim its good for 6 washes . I spray inside up to the knees, inside the sleeves from both ends , and the inside both the back and chest area. You really do not need to dip your base layers in it. I do spray the inside of my boots also . I talked to Sawyers a few years ago to ask them how long the shelf life was for Permethrin. They said 5 years . They also gave me a recommendation on how to wash and dry the treated outfits . Turn them inside out. Especially if you are putting them in the dryer . They claimed that tumbling them in the dryer will wear down the layer of Permethrin when the outfit rubs on the hot drum. Makes sense so I do it. They also said that once a tick makes contact with the Permethrin for 15 seconds, it can no longer bite you. It is neutralized . I've gone through some small pines and high bush blueberries and see 3-5 ticks on me . Its actually entertaining to watch them scramble . After maybe 10-15 seconds they start lifting their legs like they are walking on hot coals . They scramble and fall off shortly afterwards. They will be dead within a couple hours ! . Its nice knowing you are a tick killing machine walking through the woods. LOL One last thing I will warn you about if you are going to mix your own . Permethrin is scent free . But dont make the mistake of buying PETROLEUM BASED Permethrin !!!!! Make sure you are buying the WATER BASED version or you are going to ruin your hunting clothes and smell like diesel fuel !!! Any mix above the 10 percent is petroleum based . Some of the brands make the 10 percent in both petroleum based and water based. Make sure you get the right one !

  11. Unfortunately its not in the family anymore . I actually traded it in years ago along with a couple other guns that I had no use for to buy a new Remington 1187 20ga rifled barrel slug gun with a red dot site for my youngest son , and a new Browning Silver 12ga rifled barrel slug gun for me. I dont remember the model number but it had a 10 or 12 inch blued barrel . My Dad had a long holster strapped to the side of his leg . His hunting buddies would make fun of that thing . They are the ones that named it " The Cannon " . They would kid him and say he was carrying 2 rifles in the woods . LOL
  12. Vermont 1962 My Grandfather on the left and my Father on the right holding the S+W 357 . That was a 6pt buck my father shot with that pistol . He was hunting with his " Trusty " Winchester Model 100 semi auto and came up over a knoll and saw this buck browsing on acorns at about 25 yards . Took aim and the rifle wouldn't fire. He dropped down out of sight to eject the shell and the bolt wouldn't pull back . So he took out the " cannon " and looked over the knoll with the buck staring at him and dropped it right there. I was 6 years old then . But If I remember right , the bolt never closed all the way because the bullet had a crimp in the casing and was warped . and jammed going into the chamber. My Grandfather passed away in 1999 and my Dad passed away in 2016 . When I'm deer hunting I always carry something of theirs with me in their honor as my mentors to feel like we are all still hunting together .

  15. Robby ,I saw a guy and his family from NY that was staying in the same condo building I was in Hampton Beach NH last summer . Every one in his family including the kids were wearing the same Tee Shirts with that logo on it ! LOL Im sure those were directed at Cuomo but sadly the story continues on with the new wicked witch.
  16. You are absolutely right ! I've only shot one bear . Shot it in Maine in the big woods while deer hunting . I knew he was in there . There was a small abandoned orchard of maybe 15-20 trees and I would find his crap piles and puke everywhere . He must of been getting drunk every night eating that hard apple cider LOL . His fur was very shiny and he was full of beechnuts and apples when I gutted him . Shot a 130lb spike horn in Vermont the same year . When I would ask the kids which one they wanted me to cook for dinner it was always unanimous " BEAR !!!! " He tasted way better than the deer . Absolutely delicious ! Cooked the steaks the same way as the deer steaks. Just seared on both sides with peppers , onions and mushrooms . And yes , dump fed bears have a way different taste than big woods bears or bears that feed on AG crops.
  17. If you scroll down on this webpage it shows the states that the Nitrofire is legal in . According to this map they are already legal in NY ( Green ). And quite a few that might allow them ( yellow ) . Personally I dont care for them for one reason only . The powder charge is already pre determined . We know that many muzzleloaders need to be tweaked to figure out which charge and which projectile works best . We know all muzzy's are not created equal even though its the same gun . I have 2 TC White Mountain Carbines and each one likes a different load . One shoots best with 90gr of powder with a 350gr Maxi Hunter and the other shoots best with 80gr or powder with a 375gr Maxi Ball . As far as a single shot shotgun allowed during muzzy season , I hope they never do that up here in NH . They are totally different firearms. https://www.traditionsfirearms.com/nitrofire
