  1. Crushing it in the ithaca area this last few days. Lots of bones on the ground around me.
  2. I have pounded my tascos for multiple years still working great.
  3. I spend many days in the woods yearly, probably close to 200 if you count morning and afternoon escapes. That being said I've only ever went on the trap line a few weeks as a youngster. A man named Bob Poyier who was great friends with my father, took me under his wing on a water line. Bob was a true outdoorsman and what small amount of time I spent with him I learned things that will carry with me through life. I now tan a few deer and coyote hides a year for my house using the orange bottle tanners solution. That being said, I applied and took my Trappers exam by mail after deer season was closed up. I recieved confirmation that I had passed a couple weeks ago and didn't really have time to put together a Predator line. Eventually I would like to deal with some of the raccoons, fishers, and coyotes on our lease, but seasons all closed up for trapping. Ill still end up calling for dogs but I just realized that beaver trapping goes into April and now am thinking of setting a line out for the last 2 weeks of season. Does anyone have any thoughts on how to make a simple straight forward line with 2 dozen traps or less. I understand what types of sets to use but I'm more woneldering about general beaver behavior and any small tricks or tips that pertain to this late time of year. Ill be using mostly body gripping traps around sluces and ditches, possibly some drowning foot sets, I fear water fluctuations and floods could really effect those drowning sets.
  4. Your most likely not going to solve this problem from the inside unfortunately.
  5. I get it. It could encourage him to hunt for the rest of his life. That bucks genetics are there, there will always be a other one. you should try to be happy for him also. It may make a friendship for you.
  6. Went to carousel mall with the kids, saw 50+ I read that they winter there. America, f×(<! Yeah!!! Made the kids listen to the star spangled banner while we watched them.
  7. In the world of catfish and tinder swindlers not face pictures for this guy, or trophy kill pictures either really.
  8. Safety concerns like electrical and gas appliances that could be compromised. Otherwise probably not necessary
  9. Did 6+ miles today. It was a really fortunate day in my shed career. Don't often get 3 and a pair laying together is really neat. This deer is on this post in earlier pictures
  10. All of the above. Right now I'm just going straight into bedding where I think someone else will. Headed right for individual beds on ridges and in gulleys.
  11. Lol, it's online, and You can also get them in some drugstores and other public locals. I'm under the impression it's to take the presure off of the testing sites. Between school and work we are testing all the time. 5 of us in my family.
  12. Vortex makes different level of products. Generally the more expensive models are pretty great in my experience.
  13. It's possible that's the same deer, at least the sheds appear that way but the story behind it would be nice, I suspect it's a pen raised animal.
  14. I just let the birds talk naturally, after you locate them and your sure you have them around you will hear them in the mornings. Locator calls can work, owls, crows and even coyote howis but sometimes they are pretty tight lipped. When they gobble I call once then unless they keep gobbling I cut the distance call a little more and wait. Remember nothing in the world has better vision than birds, don't let them catch you moving.
  15. I would be more interested at morning roost gobble. Also public birds may not gobble much. Boots on the ground for tracks, remember you can't kill em if they aren't there. You may need to find other places to hunt also.
  16. I suggest when you can start digging. Big deep drainage with lots and lots of gravel and black perforated pipe taking it as far away as possible.
  17. I've had 2 pairs of lacrosse boots in the last 5 years. 1st lair is done, 2nd pair is running strong. No complaints, I think rubber boots are less comfortable In general. I also have heard great things are coming out from tidewe.
  18. On private and If unpressured they like to stay in the same places. We have a few trees that never change. I see them also roost in seperate places based on weather. Big hemlocks when it's rainy and huge oaks when it's clear. Also it seems like they roost near or over water and on super steep banks. I assume it's like escape routes. On public it's key to listen too the woods the last week before season opens. If you really want to gain some knowledge after they come down and move off sneak in and loom for giant trees with turkey poop all over the ground. After first couple days on public everything changes including the way I hunt them. You need to be different from every other hunter. Lots of good advice on the many different turkey threads on here. The first time I called in a mature Gobbler to the barrel it changed my desire to hunt them. I keep a diaphragm in my truck or in my pocket year round now. Last year I hunted 20 days til noon. Got to see lots of birds and help a couple others fill a tag.
  19. Our turkeys stay close, and new ones will show up, the toms will split up and spread out a little but sightings are good for us any time. We usually have a pile of hens and smaller birds year round also. Definitely places with good nesting habitat will have birds that don't necessarily live there all year.
  20. I dont know if anyone will respond to this because its not for political opinions or current affairs arguments. I will be posting the goings ons of my spring turkey scouting. It would be cool if others were into posting anything turkey related!!! Here are some studs just outside of my lease. Notice the paintbrushes. In the past ive seen many large birds in this field, after the first week presure usually pushes them deep onto some private that cannot be hunted by anyone. A hot hen will pull em out once in a while. A couple days before while on the regular shedventure I found these dinosaur tracks. Its a little exciting or at least encouraging as this is public land. Gobble gobble yall.
  21. I think perch and walleye are the best freshwater eating fish there is. Flaking white meat is almost as good as ocean catch!
  22. I think Trudeau is doing this because Canada and our government are so dependent on Canadian transportation that he needs a show of power to try to get things under control. I dont think this will happen in America because we have a different mindset and take pride in our "freedom".... Canada is like a junkyard that the British and the French just left all thier garbage there. We as Americans came here and fought for independence. Totally different cultural beginnings. You will see severe disobedience if they try this in America. We are armed and capable, also unlikely we will have a civil war because it will affect tax collection.
  23. Me too, I'm with you. Find myself plinking with the 22 more than shooting my rifle or trap.
