Official 2022 Fall Plots Thread
Kmartinson replied to Five Seasons's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
I cant tell you how it looks up close, but I crimped all the weeds down and planted a mix of clover, rye, and turnips in a few places. My cams are showing the does hammer it. There were many bucks on there until September 15th -
One thing I noticed after I got my new bow set up was how great I'm getting passthroughs. I'm only 5lbs heavier from 65 to 70 and it's not the fastest bow in the world. But my bowtech revolt x with these victory v3 game getters really seem to slide through nicely. I wonder how much the micro diameter arrow effects it. Any thoughts fellas?

It's amazing but not many guys interested. Only 4 guys total so far.

I haven't ever seen a 180" in the woods, lol. In my area we don't have many farms, not too much ag. My dad's biggest buck in a lifetime of hunting was just under 130 in 97', my uncle shot a 155" in late 80s both of those deer were aged by jaw as 5.5yr old. Otherwise there walls are full of velvet skull caps of deer under 110". They all look pretty good in an old picture. Lol It's a little different for me I'm a little more picky. I cant say I judge deer by inches either, if I like the hunt and it feels good then I make my move. The TV and internet sure do make it look easy. Your work looks great!

Testicular injuries can create a never out of velvet buck. My cousin shot a 8pt i. Tioga county ny, 7r, with a rifle in November, at 200yards it looked like a giant massy buck to him. It was really only a 100ish inch buck still in full velvet, with no oysters at all. He sent it out to be preserved and then mounted it. Pretty cool.

I dont think many places have genetics that go much over 130/140 in nys. If you get a 100" deer in ny you should understand that's a respectable buck. Many guys don't actually know age or inches, just a bunch of talk.

It's 2.5, I had lower jaw aged? So younger would be tough to say with a straight face. Happy Hunting!!!!!

Only beef I eat is Ribeye, I think delmonico is the same thing without a bone wrapped to make a more circular cut. Filet is too dry for me. If I eat beef I want to taste that salty fat.

Beans still green? Deer still using them?

Don't know but I like it!!! -
It doesn't really matter to me what you guys are grumbling over. I sent the jaw out because it seemed so young, and that's the results. He looked even bigger when I found him

This deer is from ithaca ny, it's around 127" and weighed 180lbs dressed. The teeth were aged at 2.5 years young. I wont let a 20+ inch deer walk by and I surmise most of you wouldn't either. Genetics play an important role. You cant judge age from a cam picture and really why does it matter? That's a nice buck in question but if you have pics that make it 4.5+ why did you ask us to guess and then be mad when people state thier opinion? I may have missed the point? That being said I hope everyone has a great hunting season and harvests deer your proud of no matter what size or sex.

I live in and hunted 7r for 30+ years. What can I help you with? Are you a resident? I think its called the emerald knecklace because we have 30,000 acres of public all touching in a big circle. I have spent some sort of time on almost all of them. I also have a lease available in that zone, still spots available for 500$ for the season.

That's something to look forward too!

I also like the hoffmans...Hoffmann.... for at home!!!!

I second that....

Hunting very specific bedding for bucks. Apples and high browse count areas. Bucks are really solo. They aren't bedding near other deer imo you have to go find them. I don't worry about bumping them because they will shift again in the rut. Bump and dump and don't believe anyone who tells you it's a lull. Still hunt with your face in the wind until you find the sign you want. Everyone does it differently but you can't shoot them if they aren't there. Does will be where the best food source is.

All depends on the wind. I'm chosing to be super aggressive for the first 3 weeks of season. I will be the guy who stinks up as much public as possible around me. Crosswind on buck bedding exits and ridges headed down to ag. When we get cold fronts I'll shift to spots where I think certain buck may be on my leases.
