A few weeks ago I lost my Victorinox Minichamp, which was my go to micro-multi-tool that I carried everywhere in my change pocket. I carry a folding knife all the time, but always appreciated having a small tool with a screwdriver and bottle opener. So, I decided to purchase a slim Leatherman to replace it, and went with a Skeletool CX, mainly because I do think the extra money is worth it for the 154cm steel vs 420HC (which is a fine steel if Buck makes it, but is hit or miss on others depending on how it's heat treated). I received it today, and am very happy with it as an all around tool. It's slim enough to easily "disappear" in my front pocket, and though it only has 7 tools, they are pretty much all that I need. I have ordered a drop-in hammer attachment that I think might come in handy as well. The other plus is: Now that I have bought a replacement for my SAK, it will undoubtedly turn up

I’ve got my big mitts on an old Browning Light Twelve that I think is going to clean up really nicely once I get to spend some time with it. However, I’m seeing something that I haven’t seen on my standard 12 or Light 20, in that the barrel has to be unthreaded slightly from the barrel extension (metal extension that runs into the chamber) in order for it to be assembled. When I first took the barrel off I noticed it the extension was loose, but when I tighten it down by hand, it goes about 1/8 turn past where the slots line up and it won’t reassemble. I have to back it off that 1/8 turn to get everything lined up, and the barrel is by no means tight in the extension. Now, once it’s together, everything is tight and doesn’t rattle. I haven’t shot it yet, but will give it a try once I get it cleaned up, as I don’t think it’s anything that will cause a major malfunction for the time being, but I would like to address it if it needs it. Has anyone ever experienced this issue? Also, I plan doing a before and after post once I tear into it, along with a Winchester Model 12 from 1913 that I acquired, though it’s a lot rougher than the Browning.

I did this with my niece and nephew this afternoon and they had a blast. We ended up with probably 2 dozen worms (I wish I would have got a photo, but I left my phone in the house). They made sure their mom let them take the “worm caller” home. It was really cool.

Another Mass shooting this time in Texas

I’m sitting here giving my little girl a bath before bed, and can’t help but think about those parents that did the same thing last night, and won’t be able to again. It breaks my heart. I’ll hug my girls extra close tonight. -
I doubt a black rifle is in my future, but I've always liked any "classic" design I've talked with the states we'll be traveling through, and as long as it they are locked in a hard sided case, separate from ammo, I'm good with "safe passage". I spoke with ISP, and the local district commander said that as long as I have a license in my home state, I'm fine for IL. I was a little worried that I couldn't do it, but it sounds like as long as I stay away from NJ, I'm fine.

I got some new stocks for it today. I do like the originals, but these look nice as well.

The first truck I ever bought was a well used 1995 1500 (2wd). It has the old 350 in it. I sold it to my dad when I went to grad school. Outside of putting a transmission in it at 250,000, and a little work on the front end, the truck still makes it’s 2-3 trips a week to town with 325,000 miles on the clock. When I go home I drive it as much as I can. I made a lot of memories in that old truck. Congrats on your find, and forgive me waxing nostalgic over it.

I have been looking at getting a 1911 for a few months now, and just kind of bouncing around through shops to see what I liked, what I could afford, and ultimately, what I wanted. After handling several guns, I decided that I wanted a Commander sized gun that didn’t max out my budget, and most of all a gun that I wouldn’t be afraid to shoot the daylights out of. The Ruger fit the bill on all of those fronts. I remember kind of drooling over the full size when it came out in 2011, but trying to support my wife and I on a High School teachers salary with a spouse in vet school, even an entry level 1911 was out of the question. That changed last week, when I visited a little shop in Washington County and found this gun for a decent price. It’s nice and tight, and outside of the shop or previous owner pretty much drowning the thing in oil, it looked great and was exactly what I was looking for. I picked it up today, and got all of the excess oil (and dirt) off of it. The thing looks pretty much brand new, and with the box and all the goodies, it can pretty much pass as such. I am going to dress it up a little bit with some Ruger “Eagle’s Wings” grips, but outside of that, I plan on leaving it pretty much stock Best of all, I got it in time to take back home to Illinois and plink with my dad a bit. That in itself is priceless.

Im pretty happy with it. The only thing I have discovered is that the decocker is hit or miss, but since I only plan to shoot targets with it, I’m not going to invest anything into fixing it and run the risk of messing something else up. It shoots and cycles as it should, and I’m fine with that. I’m all but sure it has the alloy frame not steel. I don’t think it’s that early, and the frame is pretty light. -

It shoots! I put a magazine through it at around 10 yards. My first shot was wide, but after that, it shot pretty well. I know a magazine isn't much of a test, but I really just wanted to make sure it would fire and cycle before my 30 day return period was up. I'm pretty pleased with it and just need some practice. -

They had 100rnds of Winchester FMJ, and 500rnds of Magtech, which I don't know much about, but seems to be okay stuff from what I've read. -

No, I found this one at "The Outdoorsman" in Cohoes. I think it used to be called American Trade Goods. Since I was kind of on a mission for what I wanted I didn't look at too many of their long guns, but it's not a bad shop, and seems pretty reasonable on their prices. I did score really well on 9mm last week at the auction, I bought all they had (600 rounds) for an average of $.21 a round. He didn't have a lot of great guns last month, just a few old rifles that sold pretty well. March was a killer line-up for guns, some really nice stuff that went sold pretty reasonable. I'd been holing away band money hoping that April would be the same, but nothing I was interested in. -

I went to pick up my Model 39 yesterday, and the guy at the counter said "Good news, the guy who sold us the gun brought in the original box and another magazine the day after you bought it". That was a very pleasant surprise.Last night I tore it apart, and it was fairly dirty, it really looked like whoever cleaned it only took the time to wipe down the visible areas, which is understandable. For me, it made it that much more rewarding to get it cleaned up and looking good.I decided to take a photo with my other Smith, a K-22 Masterpiece, that came from my Dad. A good looking pair if I do say so myself. Now I just need to find time to get out and shoot it.
