It all depends on the tree. I like them in like a thinner maple or pine but I do not use them on a real thick oak. I actually prefer steps over anything but an extension ladder. If I do not use an extension ladder I use tree steps..........

I use to always be in my stand 1 hr before it starts to get light until I realized there was no point in it. Now I walk in when it is starting to get light. I guess it depends on your stand location......

People using other peoples tag do not bother me so much but poaching has to be stopped or the fines made so ridiculously high. Problem is it is very hard to catch people doing it. The only people that get caught doing it for most part are fools pulling off a bust highway to shoot a buck in a field 400yds away. They can not help themselves........... A buddy of mine has property in oswego and the guy that watches it built a deer pen and baits it and some how the deer get trapped in. He uses it year round to feed his family. This stuff goes on alot more than you would think.......

No It really is not. You have any idea how much a speeding ticket is for going like 15 mph over the speed limit in some towns? It is ridiculous. I am not saying I am a poacher and I do this stuff because I do not but it is just funny to me how people act all innocent with the hunting rules.

Its illegal how dare you. Give me a break. The fine for using somebody else s tag is less than a speeding ticket. How many of you ( I would never do it it is illegal) dorks have went over the speed limit.......

Ok Turns out that the activity he has been looking for is baiting and the hotline has had several complaints from the area and even the superior seems to think from other hunters that want the place to themselves. He has been told to ease up on the location as nothing has been found in 2 months. Thanks for all comments

Yea I have heard of people doing that. Thats balls. You could get in big trouble for acting like an officer. This is not the case.

I personally wanted to see what is up and what some of you thought. My cousin is friggin Irate. He was gonna blast the guys name all over the internet and where exactly he has been I told him not to do it. I Told him a few minutes ago to call new paltz tomorrow and find out if the officer is in the wrong doing..........

He checked my license the first 2 days then a few days later he walked by me and walked around for like 20 minutes then left. After the 3rd time waking up at 5am to have this guy ruin my hunt at 8am i said forget this. Since then he has been ruining my cousins and friend hunt just about every day.

Thats what i thought guys thanks. He is a rookie and rumor has it he is only 23 years old.

We have a DEC officer that has come in the woods ruining our hunts just about everyday since OCT 1st. The first time he came right to our treestands and asked us to come down so he could check our licenses. After he did he walked around for a while. Anyway, I figured we would never see him again. The next day he did the same thing so I said Don't you remember me from yesterday and he replied that he was looking for illegal activity. It is state land and my cousin lives across the street from it and said he has run into this guy about a dozen times now busting his chops and he has watched him from his window another 30x walking around in the woods.Is it me or is this harrassment????? My cousin was gonna call his superiors but I said let me jump on the forum......... What do you guys think??

Rubs are great at getting you pumped up but it is real hard to tell the size of a rack from a rub. Unless it is the size of a telephone pole I tend not to get to crazy thinking a monster buck made it. I watched a mature basket rack buck that would not even gross 105 destroy a tree the size of my calf in less then 2 minutes. After that I do not put to much stock in rubs unless they are real big.
