  1. No one said there was no deer. Most of the people I talked with I know. Since I have been home some of them sent me pictures of deer in their yards with comments like hunting here wouldn't be much of a challenge lol.
  2. I couldnt do it either and just gave up. I also tried to post pictures and couldnt get them to take either. Maybe some step by step directions for us picture morons would help.
  3. Anyone ever go hunt Ohio? I have a place I can stay at anytime and was out there for work this past week. Its in Portage county near Suffield. There are corn fields and soy beans planted everywhere. I talked to alot of the locals and not one hunted or knew anyone who hunted. I found that quite odd, I looked at maps and checked into season dates price of license etc. Ohio has a very nice bow season. Sept 24 till Febuary 4th I think it was. Just looking to see if anyone has hunted that area and what one could expect or any state land that stood out in particular to them. Being 6 hours away from me I would like atleast not go in blind. Im sure first trip back out there would be a scouting adventure.
  4. I sit from dark to dark alot. I pack a lunch of sorts with sandwich and fruit or something. A bottle of water and if its cold a thermos with coffee or hot chocolate. Nothing like a growling stomach at the wrong time. For a snack its usually some jerky.
  5. Better read closer, it sure is illegal. You cannot leave any personal belongings on public land. You carry it in you must carry it out.
  6. Not to change this topic off thread but isnt it illegal to leave anything you brought into the woods with you on public land? Cameras included.
  7. Who the hell is Billy?? Bow is only 9 days if you have a tag from last year and 13 if not. State land all over the northern tier. And yeah sorry but this is the dumbest thread ever. Spewing out all these post about shooting a deer up the ass and shooting deer in ateries that are smaller in diameter than a pencil. Keep feeding the anti's guys Im sure they are loving this thread. Not to metion the new young hunters who might not have a good mentor gets his first opportunity at harvesting a deer and he/she shoots it in the ass and does not recover it from reading this thread. I think I will go to my local sports store and try to find a 3d target with an X ring on its asshole or an artery with an ring around it. And hunters wonder why hunters get a bad rap.
  8. Im trying to figure out why we have 41 replys about shooting a deer in the ass. This thread is in the top 10 of the dumbest post I think I have ever read. Im just saying.
  9. NYAntler I have a question. Are you not "waiting" to see deer while your are "hunting" or are you just walking around carrying your bow trying to find your way home? lol
  10. If it concerns you and rather than ruining the finish on the gun why not just get a camo barrel wrap for it? My brother did it with his gun basically all it is is camo tape but doesnt leave all the sticky glue after you take it off. He put his on a few years ago and never took it off. Simple and quick and keeps the gun original.
  11. Nyslowhand. A pass through is a pass through and bigger heavier faster blah blah blah isnt going to get you anything in that scenario. We all know that every shot cant be the perfect shot. We all hope and most try there hardest to make that happen but when you stick a bone things start ot go downhill from there. I honestly believe and have seen from my own experience that the heavier grained arrow has more potential to drive through to the vitals. I used to shoot beaman carbon arrows, didnt like it when I struck a rib and the arrow tailwhipped upon entry and ended up coming out the same side in the rear of the doe, I went and switched to a easton carbon, and a couple years later same thing but arrow never came out of the deer and there wasnt any sign of the arrow, when field dressing it what a mess the arrow was inside its paunch and stuck into the hind quarter. I never had these issues with the old aluminum and after some research some advice I went back to a heavier shaft and bought easton full metal jacket arrows and so far so good. My total arrow weight in my hunting setup pushes 500 and I have not had a problem with deflection or breaking through bone. Now I also am at 70 lb draw and pushing 320 fps and I like it that way. I feel confident in my setup and it has not let me down. I think even more important is razor sharp broadheads. Im anal about keeping my heads sharp. I also have to agree with Doewacker an arrow stuck in the vital area and slicing and cutting while it is running off is more deadly than a pass through, however this tends to lead to a non-existant blood trail for a bit if that deer runs out of sight. With only one entry wound and even worse one entry wound shot out of a stand means the cavity has to fill with blood to the entry hole before you get good blood. Now with a pass through especially from a stand you have a high entry and a low exit and most blood loss will come out the low entry as it takes less time for the cavity to fill to that point. Just my thoughts and what works for me.
  12. Its funny that you dont even have to mention a name of that organization to know who it is. find it amazing that hunters actually join that group. Indeed they share the same tactics to only better themselves. If that article came out in NY I would take a poke that the Humane Society would be knocking on their door to get those hunter stats and they would walk side by side in hopes of getting some kudos in return to use on their own plate like. I can hear them now, Hey we will support you if you just help us get sundays to bow only, its a win win you get the guns out of the woods on sunday and we get bow only on sunday. You had to go and get me riled up didnt you? Half a month to go hunters half a month to go.

    East Otto

Hunting is alot to do with patience. I have a boy thats cant sit still for 5 seconds. Drives me crazy. If your fidgiting and moving your chances have dropped drastically. Patience grasshopper patience. I know a guy who takes a book in the stand with him so he occupies his mind instead of fidgeting. He might not be on full alert for deer but atleast hes not alerting the deer he is there. He has taken deer since but he still is the first one back to camp. Must be the book he was reading wasnt all that interesting lol.
  14. Here is a great poem that I like to share for the ones who have lost their loving pets. Been down that road a few times and man it rips your heart out. This poem was not written by me but is based after the Norse Legend. Enjoy. The following poem is inspired by this Norse Legend By the edge of a woods, at the foot of a hill, Is a lush, green meadow where time stands still. Where the friends of man and woman do run, When their time on earth is over and done. For here, between this world and the next, Is a place where each beloved creature finds rest. On this golden land, they wait and they play, Till the Rainbow Bridge they cross over one day. No more do they suffer, in pain or in sadness, For here they are whole, their lives filled with gladness. Their limbs are restored, their health renewed, Their bodies have healed, with strength imbued. They romp through the grass, without even a care, Until one day they start, and sniff at the air. All ears prick forward, eyes dart front and back, Then all of a sudden, one breaks from the pack. For just at that instant, their eyes have met; Together again, both person and pet. So they run to each other, these friends from long past, The time of their parting is over at last. The sadness they felt while they were apart, Has turned into joy once more in each heart. They embrace with a love that will last forever, And then, side-by-side, they cross over… together.
  15. My backup is my older glove type release. The good thing is the anchor points of my main release and back up are the same but I do take it out and shoot it a bit but probably not as much as I should.

    Cover scent

Seems like every year when Im out cuttng firewood and skidding out logs I have deer come in to investgate. A few weeks ago I had this doe follow me around all day and I mean within 50 to 60 yards everytime I looked she was right there. I have had a few loggers tell me the same thing. Curious I guess but the sounds and smells dont seem to bother them when we are working its when we are hunting they hide lol.
  17. It really suprises me the anwers to this question. I shoot 100 grains for one reason to get the proper FOC I need to shoot a 100 grain. 125 and my FOC is to far forward and it will cause the arrow to drop faster in flight. Arrows need tuning just like a bow. Im also against the lighter the better theory. What does more damage and gets more penetration? Look at it this way Drive a volkswagon beetle into a concrete wall at 60 miles an hour, then go drive a big ass heavy truck into the same wall at 50 mph. Which one will cause more damage?
  18. Glad it worked out but something about riding in the trailbalzer as it sits on top of the flatbed doesnt seem to safe to me. When I was in a bad accident they wouldnt even let me in my truck to get my house keys when it was on the flatbed and the towtruck driver is a friend. He got them for me anyhow.
  19. I had a my daughters little sister from her moms current marriage spend the weekend with us. All she wanted to do was go fishing. She kept talking about going to my house so I could help her catch her first fish ever. Well I did it the old school way just like gramps did with me on the farm. Old coffee can and a shovel and out we went digging for worms. Got enough and grabbed a fishing pole and started down the trail out back to the river. Somewhere along the way we stepped on the little bastards hive in the ground. I Walk this trail everyday and never been stung. So glad that little girl can react and listen as good as she does. I got stung in the hand and immediatley told her to run. I instantly decided to let her get ahead of me so those little basterds would focus on me and not her. Once she was about 15 yards ahead I folllowed behind her. She did good and got stung just that once. Me 3 or 4 times in one hand 2 times in the temple and once in my ear of all places. After a few tears a call to her mom and some benadryl she decided she was going to be a trooper and try to go fishing after all. Well she not only caught her first fish she caught her second one as well and then decided thats enough lets go home lol. 6 or seven bee stings for a little girls first two fish in her life priceless. My ear my head and my hand is hurting pretty good. I dont remember the swelling and as much pain as the last time I got stung by those ground bees.
  20. Thats is Im coming to Cuba. Wait where is Cuba? Hell I will just look up in the tree tops for antlers sticking out above the trees, should be an easy find. I also suggest you might want to pass on this little dink. Okay so Im jealous, very jealous. I would love just to see something close to that caliber on my cams.
  21. Man those dry heaving sounds remind me of the first time I watched my nephew field dress a doe he got a few years back and then again when he helped me the folllowing year field dress a buck. I got to show him this he will lose it for sure. LOL
  22. HIgh wide and handsome. Nice buck right there.
  23. Glad you guys do cause they never have what I want in their fishing or hunting department. She who must be obeyed always say well if they dont have it you dont need it...... wrong.
  24. What you are missing is all the pheasant hunting preserves who raise their own birds or are imported to them for their hunters that are part of that 100,000. Some wild pheasant, yes I have seen a couple over the last 10 years on my own land. I had the DEC pull in my driveway with a fairly young one in their hands and asked if my birds got out as they found it on the side of the road walking in front of my house. Had to laugh as I said nope not mine and they drove away with it. One less sild one on my land now lol.
  25. First off I personally dont hunt over or near my foodplots for personal reasons. And the reason to keep deer out of the foodplot is to stop them from devistating it before it can mature and sustain its self. If the deer get in on it while it is young and first growing they will pull the plant out of the ground roots and all from the small and short roots it has on it at that state in its life. Why would anyone go through all the time and money to plant a foodplot only to have it devoured before it can get established to maintain and yearly substance for the wildlife? Thats the question I would like to know.
