They are trying this on LI. This has been known to cause buck mortality due to doe going into estrous every month. Horrible idea that has proven ineffective for years. Yet each town apparently needs to try it and then say WOW it does not work here, just like every other town it was tried in, da I wonder why? With 35,000 deer estimated on LI the cost would be staggering! But we can just raise the taxes in NY some more to justify it? 1,200$ per deer times lets just say 10,000 deer = 12,000,000$. Talk about wasting money, instead of charging bow hunters and making more money. Such smart people in charge it is amazing! Sarcasm at its best! The stupidity of these politicians and elected officials who bow to the activist is astounding. (Look what we did, we reduced the population by spending a bunch of money, O wait we did not reduce any population, dam.) How can we spend more money to fix the problem? Daaa Bow hunters are the safest and most effective way to cull deer populations.

I used all my likes so, like and like to Vince1230 and Vince1. Depending on the area some will forget, depends on how often she goes their. If she goes often and does not see you she can forget. But the old ones remember. Just like people, deer are each different.

I would turn the phone off. Yes I think the spot is now busted, at least by that one doe. Now every time she comes to that spot she will check it. If you can try to set up where she can't see you but you will still be able to see the area you where busted in. Use the wind to your advantage so if she tries to get downwind you still have a shot. Otherwise its just one doe, if she is with others the problem is they will be alert at the same time. Your call. Very very cool experience, hope this is the first of many you tell about. Hunting is different for each person and every day can bring something new you never saw before! Thanks for sharing!

Nice buck, good footage! He looks like a 3.5 to me but could be a 4.5. I understand passing him if you have better deer in the area. Thanks for sharing.

Has anyone tried/own a heated seat cushion??

The foam seat cushions work great, used them for over 26 years never had a problem. -

Looks pretty worn. I am guessing around 6.5 -
I remember when I came upon this deer and was astounded that his tarsal glands where not dark indicating he was not in rut. (November 7th) Even his neck was not that thick as was expected for that time of the year. You would never know it by his reactions to my calls and the rubs he made.

This is not expensive and you have access the entire year. Leased by yourself yes but like some have said if you get a few guys it ends up being a little more than 1,000$ for the year. The deer population is some of the highest in the state. If I did not live so far away and did not have the options of public land on LI I would consider it. Makes the guy who spent 500$ for one day on LI seem crazy but he tagged 3 deer that one day. If taxes where not so crazy in NY I would say this is crazy but these prices are by no means excessive.

If it's really large you can try calling them out to the high ground with some doe in heat calls or possibly some grunting and rattle sequence. Use the wind to your favor. Otherwise listen to Joe, they like the cover but want to be dry.

That's funny, but dam it sucks dragging uphill! Nice pic!

I hit the alarm clock at 3:40am and went back to bed, to windy. I go to the parking spot around 1pm and see about 70 people on bikes 1/2 mile before I enter, great... Only saw 6 while hunting. I gear up and head out from this new spot. I take a deer trail 30 yards in and jump 2 doe 20 yards later in thick bush its crunchy and hard to move quiet. I tried a few calls but had no luck. Ended up checking the area by the road to see if anything was hiding, found 2 rubs. Wind was NE vs NW dam weatherman. Nice day but wind was shifty and movement seemed low but I got out late. My buddy Al saw a nice 8pt he had no shot on, going crazy jumping like a rabbit. Sounds like the rut is getting close!!!

Main thing is your lessons learned! Very cool! I pride myself on my shooting ability. I have not shot at any deer, until this year. I have been using the bow since 2001 with a few years off in between. This year when the time came I rushed a shot at a deer that was 11 yards!!! Even with all my practice my nerves got the best of me, I will be focusing much more on my next shot. Lesson learned. Welcome to the forum! Hope you come back and tell us about your hunts. This is a great site with awesome people, feel free to ask any other questions. Hope to hear of your success this year, deer or no deer! It's all good as long as you come home safe. Good luck!
