I would use a water purifier instead of bringing water. Remote camps are nice and fun but I prefer a base camp as this type of trip requires not only a lot of gear but an excessive amount of energy and that requires vast amounts of food. (Less early season.) If you have a "hot spot" then a remote camp is great for an overnight trip. Otherwise I find that the hike in with all the gear can be exhausting. VS Base camp great food and hiking into said area with minimal gear and well rested. Plus you can bring as much food, gear and drinks as you want to your base camp, not so with a remote camp. Good luck, be safe and let us know what you think about your trip when you get back.

Tough brake, LI hunting is not easy.

I called in two doe using this call by mouth. Maaa, Maaaaaa, MOMMA. They charged me from behind, problem was I was trying to get the buck in front of me to move. I start off low then get louder as the fawn is more stressed, just like a kid calling for mom after falling off the bike. I just passed a fawn so I believe the two doe where looking for it when I called.

As we get into the season and more are made aware of our hunting this should be a daily check. My friends buddy broke his leg in 3 places from a cut strap, check your harness like Fisher2 states and be sure to check any and all straps holding any stands, climbing sticks and pegs before going up. The extra 2 minutes are well worth it and can save your life. Apparently the PETA types have no issue trying to kill or disable us.

Rain Gear Recommendations
NFA-ADK replied to BKhunter's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
Simply put most of my good rain gear is about 60$ for a top and same for bottom. Unless you go with a plastic poncho I do not think cheap goes with rain gear. Most brands in that price range work and are made of a cloth vs some type of plastic. They are also packable so I keep them in the back pack for extra wind protection/layers/rain. -
That is AWESOME!!! Congrats on the first deer! What a trooper going out by herself and getting it done! Epic! Happy anniversary! Very cool!

What order do you follow for correct shot/angle from tree stand?
NFA-ADK replied to regulat0r's topic in Bow Hunting
I do not usually hunt from a tree stand but you can do it one of two ways. You can draw straight and level then bend knees/waist to line up shot. Draw directly at the target while bent. This requires more practice. When I shoot from an elevated position I try to draw, bend then shoot. But my form is the same with both because I practice every week at different angles. Usually if done improperly the shot is high, sounds like you dropped your arm. -
I have a hard time shooting any doe, fawns are just off my radar. Guess I am just a sucker for cute. This is my first year targeting doe on LI, after I eat one my views might change a bit. Watch me shoot a doe, then have to lay waste to her 2 fawns to shut them up. ARG no way! Your all a bunch of fawn killers, my image of you is shot. Not really, lol. Now lets get out their and kill some deer!

NY deer should be fat at this time of the year regardless. They are fattening up for the rut and winter.

Very nice buck! Congratulations!

Check every stand before you go into it! Guy I know broke his leg last year from someone cutting the strap.

NY #1 in worst state to deer hunt in
NFA-ADK replied to HectorBuckBuster's topic in General Chit Chat
Tittle should read: NYS is the hardest state to get a trophy deer. This article is not about hunting, its about trophy hunting! The harvest numbers are similar to other states. Just proves that if you harvest a mature deer in NY you are one of the top hunters in the country. Right? Sarcasm, but is it? IF you harvest a buck that's 3.5 you are in the top 18% of the hardest state to hunt. Yes this is a big accomplishment! Sounds to me like if you can harvest a deer in NY other states would be easy. See how statistics can bend the truth. I believe this is accurate and NYS hunters are hunting the hardest land in the country if you want a mature deer. This is another reason I believe NY hunters are some of the best in the country. (That should get me some likes, lol) Yea I am bored sitting at home, wishing I was stalking! Time to shake this cold, hurl some arrows and spray the clothes! NFA, GETSOME baby! Enough talk! Time to crush my enemy!
