CVA Accura V2 stainless / realtree
Skillet replied to Skillet's topic in Hunting Items For Sale and Trade
$300. Somebody's gotta want this thing! -
I wondered about lung cancer too. Looked for any sign of an arrow or shot, but didn't see anything. Maybe a car hit him & messed him up, but he survived. The meat was fine. He's one of my favorite bucks.

Killed this buck in 2006, in 8C. His bottom front teeth were falling out. His left lung had a big solid mass in it. I cut it open, & it was black / greenish inside. I have no idea what happened to him.

This past April.

Yeah I really like the muzzleloader, even during regular season. The deer I killed never knew the difference. That Hawken hammers the crap out of them. I'm shooting 90gr of ffg & a 385gr Great plains conical.

That's a big part of the problem. You've started to sweat by the time you get in. The sweat then cools and because it's under your clothes it can't evaporate. It's held against your skin, & it cools you down. Could you go slower on your way to the stand? I stop for a minute or two every time I start to feel like I'm going to sweat. Also, you can bring a couple layers in your backpack & put them on once you're settled in. That way you can dress a little lighter on the way in, & avoid sweating.

I had a weird realization just now. Last year, I ended up deer hunting with a Traditions Deerhunter 50cal percussion sidelock. I killed 3 deer with it, and it shot great. Then, over the winter, I bought a CVA Accura V2 inline, & topped it with a Nikon 3x9. I wanted to be able to reach out, & I just thought the inline would be a step up all around. You know, the newest and coolest thing. This spring, I sighted in the CVA. It shot great! But honestly, I didn't enjoy it. It was no fun compared to the sidelock. Next, I thought I would buy the Savage 220 stainless / realtree, & it would be the ultimate deer slayer. I was sighting it in today after the morning hunt, & it shoots great, way out past 100yds. Even though it's a tack driver & a nice shooting gun, I suddenly realized I wasn't having any fun. I found myself wishing I had the old sidelock in my hands, sighting down the brass blade & waiting for the smoke to clear. I'm seriously leaning towards shelving the high tech, high dollar stuff, & taking the sidelock out all season again. Turns out the new is good, but I enjoy the old better. Am I crazy? Should I stick with the guns that will let me reach out?

Anybody heard from him? Hasn't been on since September. That's not like him, hope he's ok.

Dream Land... New to the Area ...where would you purchase?
Skillet replied to spark213's topic in General Chit Chat
I like Ontario County, especially Naples. Land around our camp is getting expensive now, around $3,000 / acre. If my Grandfather hadn't bought it years ago, it'd be out of our reach now. Lots of deer & turkey. There's bear too. -
Excalibur Matrix 310. 125gr Thunderheads.

Whatever is on sale when I need new stuff.

So I wonder how that 2 week kill only doe is working out
Skillet replied to swank68's topic in General Hunting
And there You have it. WNYBuckhunter everybody! Tip your waitress. -
Thanks DEC! I haven't gotten to squirrel hunt this much in years. This doe only season has really given us time to get back to it. Still my favorite animal to hunt.
-
Nice, that's really cool. You'll remember that hunt in 20 years, & it will still bring you happiness.

I think you have a real knack for "drunk posting", an offshoot of "drunk texting" -
Don't you still have to have a permit to hunt the bergen swamp?

The respect is mutual, Sir.

I get where he's a little too much, but joking about wiping my ass with the Bible doesn't seem like a good idea to me.Along the lines of TP, I never go hunting without it anymore. I accidentally used poison ivy one time when I didn't bring TP. It was before I had learned what ivy looks like. It's funny to look back on it, but it was bad. Real bad. On the bright side, I seem to have built up an immunity after that.

That's way over the line man. WOLC123 might not be your buddy (or mine), but there's no need for that. You're treading on a lot of people, posting stuff like that.
