  1. growing up we processed our own, but I really don't have the inclination to do it myself now, so I take it to the processor, never had a problem.
  2. So yesterday me and some buddies spent all day scouting around the area. They had hunted there before but I hadn't. We counted over 80 deer seen! It got so crazy that when we would see deer on the side of the road we would stop, get out and see how close we could get to them before the spooked off. I think the closest was 15 feet! all in all, I am stoked about spending the first week up there and seeing how much fun we can have. Its archery only, does only, but man the area is nice, roads everywhere, deer everywhere.
  3. I saw these and thought they would be cool for the man cave, but the prices people want on them go over $20 for ones pre-1935. I said forget that. They go on ebay for good money if anyone wants to sell some.
  4. new site. gonna have to get it some day. you don't want to be in the field and have gear break down.
  5. I've paintballed for years now. Its a ton of fun and you use the right protective gear. I think it helps build respect for weapons in kids. Plus since I'm older and have a job, I can by some awesome gun that will out shoot theirs. That way I know who's getting hit.
  6. So we drew some tags for Letchworth and will be going down the second week of November. I hope the rut is getting going well by then. Anyone hunt there want to offer up some advice?
  7. on my trips, I've done 1-200 for hunts that cost up to $2500. I've not had a trip that cost more than that I think $500 on a $5K trip is a bit much, especially since that guide is usually getting a fair share (if its not his outfit). But if I was just guided to a record moose in Maine, I might be that generous.
  8. I cruise this site and a few others when I'm on the stand. But this year I'll be deep in Southern Tier looking for bear, so prob won't have cell service. Prob shouldn't be reading and not paying attention when looking for a bear. Hate to end up on the wrong end of this hunt.
  9. Head shots are ethical for this reason. Being off just a little bit will cause undue pain and suffering. We should look to kill with the greatest efficacy. Lung/heart do this by granting a greater target area. Just because you have done it your whole hunting life and you are a super marksman, doesn't make it any more ethical.
  10. Wow. I don't think I would go anywhere near that thing. But def keep us posted on the training with pics.
  11. if the buck was in rut, there's no telling how crazy he could go. I've seen deer do some incredible things when they get going on testosterone.
  12. Most of the reviews I see on the web say Firenock is the best by a good margin, they also cost a bit more.
  13. I don't know why stories like this still surprise me. Why people would be so dumb and reckless and thinking they would not get caught is beyond me. I think shooting across each other in a car is what got me the most. Seriously, how dumb do you have to be?
  14. <---Jealous. I shoot Rage 2 as well, they really nail them. Nice job.
  15. I do, I'm a pastor, so I can flex my schedule a bit. You bet I'm going hunting. I gotta find my bear this year.
  16. I would check with an archery pro, but I am pretty sure you do not wax the serving over the cams. It can cause them to come out. and that's bad. I wax my string about once a month, I shoot year round though.
  17. My vote is it wouldn't be ethical. The hunt is not just about the shot or the game taken. It's about the whole experience. Just like I wouldnt shoot a deer standing broadside to me with another behind it. It's not illegal, but would certainly be unethical.
  18. Frog Toggs are great for anything bu hunting. I love mine for fishing, watching games because they breather. But you are right, they are noisy. In my latest Cabela's Archery catalog, I saw some rain gear that folds up into the size of a coke can; they are waterproof and breathe. If I find it, i'll let you know what they were. I do remember that the price was not cheap; $80-$100 for a top OR a bottom.
  19. Well, G-man, if you want me to come take care of those bear for ya, let me know. You can keep your deer. PM if interested.
  20. Specifically, I am looking for a bear. I'm not concerned about deer or turkeys. Plenty of those up my way in Niagara. I've looked at Hanging Bog and Letchworth, but only via my topos and Google Earth.
