Never heard of anyone spotting for turkeys, still I would think etiquette would tell the other guys to move on. Last summer I had three does walking straight towards me and some idiot in a truck got out, grabbed his bow and started walking towards them, after I falshed my light at them and then started waving my hands. His excuse was he thought I was motioning him towards me.

Lyme Disease Surge Predicted for the Northeastern U.S.
Rev Ev replied to CAM-O's topic in General Chit Chat
when i was in the USMC in NC we used permethrin, it worked well. we still needed deet for face and hands, etc. Just be careful with the stuff and don't wash anythign else with those clothes for a bit. -
Welcome, I moved up here from the south last spring. There are some pretty major diffeerences, especially in the tags, so make sure you pay attention to what tags you have and when you are using them. I called DEC and just asked all my little questions for an hour, they were pretty good about it. The other difference is make sure you know the regs for not only the county, but the township and any special area you are in. There's twice as many governmental layers up here as down there. Taking a hunter's safety up here might be helpful, even if you have it. The guys who teach it are all sportsman who can tell you stuff you won't read about. Also, if you are going to get some DMPs, make sure you apply early. Everything is electronic, so just go to Walmart and get it. And find some friends. Public land is not easy to find or hunt. Oh, and there are no alligators to worry about.

I don't have kids, but as a youth pastor I got a huge kick out of it. I will be passing it along...

Should this be moved to the brand new xbow section?

NY Spring Turkey Harvest - HUGE 10 Year Decline!
Rev Ev replied to Cabin Fever's topic in Turkey Hunting
I know my regular areas in Niagara county that I could go to and see turkeys now have none, since just last year. I have been scouting several farms that last year had birds, and now nothing. The good news is, that according to NWTF in six years turkeys can completely saturate an area to the maximum number habitat can sustain. We just need some good springs. -

Considering 11lb 4oz is the state record set over 20 years ago, I would say a trophy fish would be anything over 7, in NY. By record I mean something to hang on the wall when I normally catch and release (or get a repro made, which i personally would do). If you going to judge by size, I would say 20 inches would be the length; it could be just me but most of the LMB I have seen in NY have been long thin torpedos, not footballs. I would add that the a fish is a trophy not only because of its size, but the context it was caught on. My first LMB I caught was 1lbs 4 oz. To me that is my greatest trophy.

I saw several bow dealers, prob 5-6, I don't recall seeing any gun dealers. Maybe because they would need something extra? IDK.

I'm going to be doing a project with some youth and need a bunch of trail cams. They don't have to be high res or anythign fancy. PM with what you got. Thanks!

Squirrel and Crow Hunter Wanted
Rev Ev replied to MotherNY's topic in Small Game and Predator Hunting
I forgot about the red squirrel. And maybe I'm just wishing it was past March 31 cuz that would be closer to turkey season and out of the snow. Thanks for correcting me on both.- 13 replies

I went last night to the Outdoor Show at the Hamburg Fairgrounds. I gotta say, it was a ton of fun. I was there for about 3 hours and could have spent a few more. It cost $9 at the door, or $7 if you get a ticket online. It runs through Saturday. There are five buildings that are packed with cool stuff. Nothing was new, but it was nice anyway. They are running demo's for various hunting, fishing, and retriever classes. After some of the other shows I've seen around here, this was worth it.

Great pics!

The article says it was part of a plea deal. A total of one year in jail versus 3-6, I don't think they will cry too much.

If you're just starting out using dekes for turkeys, Gander Mountain has some hens that are foam and roll up for only 10 bucks. I would get a couple of those and just try them out. Maybe next I would add a tom strutting, there you'll pay some money, so try ebay or craigslist.

I have others, but this was probably the nicest. The G-3's on both the sheds and this picture have the same angle of the the main beam, and are about the same length and mass. I was going to go looking for the sheds, but looks like I was beat to it. Glad someone else saw them though and picked them up.

From the pictures that I have, and can't seem to load, they are the same buck.

I noticed this guy just before bow season last fall. I talked to the grounds keeper and evidently he's been a resident for about 6 years. He's even been featured on the Buffalo news channels. He doesn't have a lot of mass, but the spread is decent. I have some photos on my phone I will upload.

I was just curious if anyone else did Fantasy Fishing, either FLW or B.A.S.S.?

I'm a big fan of liver. I can't tell a diffrence between it and beef. I've had deer heart, but it was a one time thing to try it out. I didn't care much for it, but it could have been how it was prepared. Never tried kidneys.
