  1. My lab will eat anything organic if i let her. Best not to though. Grapes and raisins are toxic too.
  2. I'm 28, and aside from the obvious other things that distract us from hunting, I gotta say the two biggest things that I have encountered that have hindered my hunting: the startup cost of all the gear (if you aren't getting hand me downs). I shot a 20 year old bow for 3 years before I saved up enough to get something decent. Now I gotta save for a new MZ. I have a master's and a decent job, but life ain't cheap. The other thing I have found that makes it difficult is finding guys that will take you under your wing and teach. I know nothing of waterfowl, want to learn, but not many people want to take a noob to their blind. That means I gotta DIY or higher a guide, which I've done both, again hitting into the pocket book. I'm not trying to complain, and I love the feeling of "doing it all on my own." i was just maybe trying to give some insight from my generation into why there are less of us in the fields.
  3. So I got a buddy with a bunch of acreage down that way and was just wondering who hunts in the area? Seeing anything worth going down there for?
  4. I agree with not going for the bargain with taxidermy. Supposed to go on a wolf hunt this Spring and already found a guy to do my skin for me. I would say that I think getting a repro for a fish instead of the real thing is better conservation. You can take pictures, measurements etc and then release it. That way the giants have their genes in the pool still and someone else will get the chance at a trophy. I get though, that sometimes the fish won't make it after the fight. But, I got no problem with a person's choice either way, free country and all.
  5. So I searched the forums, and couldn't believe there wasn't anything on this. Maybe I missed it, but I was just looking for some experienced opinions on using lighted nocks. The videos are impressive and most of the reviews I see put Firenock as the brightest and longest lasting. They affect your arrow flight or FOC much?
  6. Using carbon arrows, if you glue in the nock, your out that arrow if the nock breaks.
  7. So I got a new sight, with 5 pins on it, I was just wondering what distance y'all put them at. I know some guys just use one pin; I was used to just 3. But I'm thinking of using 4, prob not 5 though.
  8. i have to vote for this one. I have used a WB for a few years now and am saving up to move away from it.
  9. I see this is older, but I'll throw my .02 in: Gold Tips with Rage 2. I haven't used lighted nocks, but might if I ever get around to buying some.
  10. Do Possums really play dead? http://askville.amazon.com/possums-play-dead/AnswerViewer.do?requestId=705704
  11. if you don't feel like being original I have seen it got by antler count: button, spike, fork, 6 Pointer, 8 Pointer, 10 Pointer, 12 pointer, Non-Typical. I thought those were fun. I just don't being a newbie...
  12. ya know, i expected some of these responses. lol. feels like im at home already.
  13. Couldn't find anything on this, but when do I stop being a Newbie and get a different title? Not that I dieing to know, just curious.
  14. lol. i think about that possum in Over the Hedge voiced by William Shatner when i think about possums playing "possum."
  15. Nice pics. Those cubs look like they are just about to go off on their own. I hear rumors of bears in Niagara County. My main goal this year is to bag a bear.
  16. BPS or Cabelas in Buffalo, IDC. someone just do something. Our GM here is understocked, undermanned and totally not in sync with the local outdoors man. I went in 2 weeks ago to get a blind bag, and they thought I wanted a bag to put my ground blind in. I told them I wanted a bag that I could put lunch, shells, etc in and take to my duck blind and would be waterproof/floating. They didn't have anything, anything, that would work. Extremely disappointing. I was told further, that the manager of the store has no say in the content of his store. It's all dictated by corporate. So all he could do was say he would put a request in. Geez.
  17. And the website has it for a much higher price now, but still on sale. http://www.cabelas.com/catalog/product.jsp?productId=1221400&type=product&WT.tsrc=CRR&WT.mc_id=crrdtfd
  18. I was in Nashville a few years back when it got flooded. The Bass Pro at Opry Mills had over 8 feet of water in it. We waited with baited breath to see when the big sale would be, never happened. Evidently there are companies that come in and buy up the whole inventory, then sell it elsewhere. Prob be the same with this GM.
  19. great stuff! and just in time for me and my new bow too!
  20. I hunted in NC for 7 years, TN for a few and never, ever heard of this. Growing up in MT when we killed elk, deer, moose, we cut around the butthole, then tied it off, just as a precaution. Always kept a piece of twine with a slip knot just for it. But in the south, I do see most guys just loading up their kill and taking it straight to the processor. It only cost $5 for them to gut it out, so I guess it wasn't a big deal.
  21. Lawdwaz, I don't mind pounding the pavement and know quite a few farmers up here. But that is the extent of my knowledge. I don't know what spots are good or what to look for on the property. Any help there?
  22. This is my Yellow Lab Dixie. She's only 3 1/2 months, but man does she love to retrieve. By next fall she'll be hitting the water for all those birds I'll be shooting. May even try to get her a title or two.
