  1. Just finished snow blowing myself out, my neighbors and my father down the road from me. If you stack all the snow together I snowblowed more than 4 feet of snow combined. I'm done and spent! Sent with Tapatalk on my Samsung Galaxy 4
  2. When you have to snow blow a path in the snow for him to do his business!!
  3. Not as bad as expected in Nassau North Shore. About 8-10 inches so far. So much for the historic blizzard of 2015. Still falling though....
  4. Travel ban in effect for all boroughs and long island. Just finished watching sons of liberty and loaded my stove. Time to hit the sack. Not looking forward to spending the day snow blowing myself and my neighors out tomorrow but I guess I don't have much of a choice.
  5. Here you go doc ... Really scary!!
  6. A good friend passed this on to me in an email and I thought this would be a perfect place to share: A blogger added up the deer license sales in just a handful of states and arrived at a striking conclusion: There were over 600,000 hunters this season in the state of Wisconsin .... Allow me to restate that number: 600,000! Over the last several months, Wisconsin 's hunters became the eighth largest army in the world. (That’s more men under arms than in Iran .. More than France and Germany combined.) These men, deployed to the woods of a single American state, Wisconsin , to hunt with firearms, And NO ONE WAS KILLED. That number pales in comparison to the 750,000 who hunted the woods of Pennsylvania and Michigan 's 700,000 hunters, ALL OF WHOM HAVE RETURNED HOME SAFELY. Toss in a quarter million hunters in West Virginia and it literally establishes the fact that the Hunters of those four states alone would comprise the largest army in the world. And then add in the total number of hunters in the other 46 states. It's millions more. The point? America will forever be safe from foreign invasion with that kind of home-grown firepower! Hunting... it's not just a way to fill the freezer. It's a matter of national security. That's why all enemies, foreign and domestic, want to see us disarmed. What this article fails to spell out is how has hunting helped the expansion of wildlife, multiple times over. Food for thought, when next we consider gun control. Overall it's true, so if we disregard some assumptions that hunters don't possess the same skills as soldiers, the question would still remain... What army of 2 million would want to face 30 million, 40 million, or 50 million armed citizens??? For the sake of our freedom, don't ever allow gun control or confiscation of guns. (If you agree, as I do, pass it on, I feel good that I have an army of millions who would protect our land and I sure don't want the government taking control of the possession of firearms) AMERICA! Designed by geniuses, Run by idiots! PERCEPTION IS REALITY!!
  7. I'm thinking of switching to a pellet stove after seeing a 40lb bag of pellets at Home Depot for $6. Hmm. .. only concern is the stove itself specifically if the blower is too noisy. Need to see one in action before buying it. Sent with Tapatalk on my Samsung Galaxy 4
  8. I have a small 25-50 cigar humidor which I bought after getting some nice Hoyos cigars in the Bahamas last winter. I had to recondition it last week as the cigars were drying out since I have not smoked one in a while. I also got a bigger humidifier that holds more distilled water. So instead of filling it up every few days I do it every few weeks now. The cigars are back to normal now. Looking forward to having one but it's been to dang cold out. Waiting for a nice little warm up before I light it up. Also like the flavored cigars Acid and Philips Blunts. Sent with Tapatalk on my Samsung Galaxy 4
  9. Oh jeez! I was going to recommend Men's Warehouse for nice men's suits until I read the rest of the original post! Lol!
  10. I don't know about the cost of the trophy hunter as I was only looking at the Axis XP for him. Didn't want to spend too much money right now.
  11. I've had a woodstove in my den since 1994 which I've used as a secondary but sometimes primary source of heat. My Vermont Castings Resolute Acclaim is now too old and needs repairs. I've been looking at some new stoves - Hearthstone with soapstone sides. I burn seasoned wood which I normally get for free from my BIL since he is a lanscaper. Usually oak or cherry wood well seasoned. Problem is I can't put any piece larger than 12-14 inches and I always have to cut them down to size. The new one im looking at takes 21" logs. I had so much left over from last year which now I'm down to maybe 2 weeks worth so today i'm expecting a delivery which I am purchasing 1/2 cord for $125 just to get me through the winter. Hope to be getting the new one in April or May.
  12. Looks great but unfortunately my son is 13 and according to their website he can't shoot anything bigger than a .22 or .17 caliber there until he is 16.
  13. Well it looks like it's going to be a crappy rainy day tomorrow to head to the Calverton range which is uncovered and outside. Besides the uniondale range are there any other covered or indoor ranges on LI?
  14. 130 was the lowest grain they had. I hope I don't scare my son off with the recoil on the 270. I've only shot a 30-06 and 12 ga. Never anything smaller. I assume the recoil is less than my 06 but more than the .243 we were looking at. Nevertheless i may borrow my brothers sled for this weekend to make it easier to sight it in.
  15. After an hour at Dicks talking to the surprisingly knowledgeable salesperson and having my son hold several rifles, we decided on the adult size Savage Axis XP in .270. It was on sale for $379. After a $100 gift card and a $10 coupon we got it for $269. Plus tax of course. Just missed getting a $50 mail in rebate by 2 days (ended on 12/31) It came with a Bushnell 3 x 9-40 basic scope. Picked up a box of 130 grain ammo. Hopefully we can get to the range this weekend. Thanks for all your help and advice everyone.
  16. He's shot a 20ga and 410 as well a 22 long. Sent with Tapatalk on my Samsung Galaxy 4
  17. I will see if the adult version fits him as compared to the youth. I don't know if I'm going with the 243 or the 7mm. We shall see tomorrow. Sent with Tapatalk on my Samsung Galaxy 4
  18. Here's to a happier and healthier than the last one! Btw what rack are you hitting?? Lol!
  19. Thanks for the info WJ. Looks like we will be going to Dicks on Friday. Happy New Year!
  20. This is a great review.WJ your review may have swayed me toward this Axis. I'm looking at the Axis XP in 7mm 08 for my son as his first deer rifle. On sale at Dicks for $369 and $100 gift card he got for Xmas. Just wondering how is the recoil on the 7mm?
  21. And he wants to get a rifle so he can go deerhunting with me next year since he will be 14 in July. These are the youth rifles available at Dicks right now http://t.dickssportinggoods.com/shop/index.jsp?categoryId=13369244&ab=GATOP_Link_YSFRiflesShotguns I was thinking of the bolt action Savage Axis -XP in .243 which comes with a basic Bushnell scope. Anyone have any experience with this rifle? Thanks.
  22. Happy Healthy and hopefully a Prosperous one too!!!
