My brother shot a 100 pound shed buck today in Hither Hills on state land. His first deer in 5 years. Waiting for him and my dad to get home. Will post a pic of it later. Very happy for him. I saw nothing yesterday and I am out again Monday.

Best of luck to everyone. I will be out on Tuesday with my cousin who has a reserved spot. My brother will also be out on Tuesday with his girlfriend.

Heading out tomorrow for my last try for bow season. Going with my brother. Have seen lots of deer this year on Long Island but not able to get one down. Hoping for the best tomorrow.

Keeping Deer captive in a fenced in area is just weird to me. -
No fee. You just need your big game license of course to hunt. You can only reserve one spot for one day but they have stand by as well where you go out and if any spots are unclaimed that day you can hunt. You can have 1 person hunting with you at your spot. Definitely a nice way to end the season especially if you had a rough Bow year.

You had to have sent in the info already. But if you are still interested in Shotgun Hunting you can sign up for any unfilled Hunting spots at the Ridge check station Randal Road, Ridge, NY between December 26 and December 30 from 10am-2pm. It is for state land at Rocky Point, Otis Pike, Westhampton, Sarnoff preserve, West Tiana, Barcelona Neck, Noyak Preserve and East Hampton co-ops.

When I am in the woods I sit from dawn to dusk. I might get up to take a little walk mid day but otherwise I sit all day long.

I got number 1485 my worst ever. Last year I was 187 lol. Lucky for me my brother and Dad got 627 and 669. I will try to get one down with the bow still myself.

I bet they wish they paid the fee now.

Yesterday besides a major rain storm I was caught in was the first time out I did not see anything all season. Hope to get out again Christmas week if I can find the time. Will try a different spot.

No bottle for me. Although I drink a lot of apple juice in the woods. Helps me mentally when peeing on the ground lol. -

I was back out in the Long Island Woods on Tuesday with my brother. We saw 8 doe between us. As usual nothing in bow range. Nice to be seeing action. Will be back out in a week or so to try to get the job done on Long Island. Happy Thanksgiving all

Well quick update from my Vermont trip. Opening morning 11/12/11 last Saturday it was nice and brisk. Got to my spot in the dark. I sit up on a hill watching the valley down below on public land. Around 7:30am I could see a Deer way down below walking through the thick stuff. I figured it for a Doe. A few minutes later it came out a tad and I could see a horn. In Vermont the deer has to be at least a 3pt to shoot. It started to walk away so I grunted and it turned around and came into an opening at about 75 yards. I could see it was a legal Buck. Took my time tried not to shake and dropped the Deer in it's spot. Very happy as it is my first Vermont Deer ever and the outlook in Vermont was grim this year. Heading back to NY tomorrow. Saw 1 doe the rest of the week. Hope everyone is doing well on LI.

Thanks everyone for the good luck wishes. Antlers my dad was raised in Vermont so I have done the rifle there since I can remember. When I was young going with my dad and grandfather they would get some nice Deer. Now it is definitely just about tradition and having a good time. The deer hunting up there is definitely not great. We hunt public land which makes it even tougher. My brother got a nice 7 pt 2 years ago but last year was dead. We Hunt in the Rutland area. Opening day is Saturday so I am hoping for some action. Of course with the rules up there it has to be at least a 3 pointer. We will see what happens. Honestly if not for the tradition I would have given up on Vermont a long time ago.
