coyotes took down full size doe
JimmyDaSavage replied to RobC's topic in Small Game and Predator Hunting
I was Hunting Vermont during there rifle season last week and as I cut into my spot all I could hear was tons of Yotes over the mountain howling and going crazy. Then all I heard was crunch, crunch, crunch and a big sized doe came flying down from where the Yotes were and went flying in the other direction. Kinda spooky as it was just getting light but those Coyotes sure scared the hell out of that deer. Wish I would have seen some of them that week. -
Leaving tomorrow for my annual dad and brother Hunting trip to Vermont. Will Hunt this Saturday until next Saturday. 3 point or higher in Vermont. Hunting public land and last year got my first Vermont harvest. Hope everyone on the island has success and stay safe in these tough times!

Shot at a deer once and had my scope to close to my face and bam the scope smashed me in the head when I shot. I was lost in space for a little bit.

I sit for all day hunts every single time I have hunted. The only time I have left early is if I am lucky enough to get a harvest. O the joys of public land hunting lol.
-
Perfect meat shot lol. Congrats.

Someone on the long island facebook hunting site said that Ridge check station has been closed all week and there is no hunting right now.

I will gladly let the young ones pass if someone is nice enough to let me hunt there property and harvest a monster. Until then as I hunt public land only and get very lucky to see any deer I will take what I can try to get before the guy right next to me does the same. Age and size of a deer means nothing to me here on Long Island where they beg you to kill em.

Rather large red-squirrel??
JimmyDaSavage replied to BlasterMaster42's topic in Small Game and Predator Hunting
You can shoot a red squirrel at any time of the year and as many as you want as long as you have your hunting license. They are on the unprotected list. -
My rage and practice tip fly the same as well but if I was having issues I would definitely use a real rage and just fix it after with an o ring or shock collar.

Just wanted to say I hope everyone stays safe in the storm and the damage is limited. We will get those deer as soon as mother nature passes

We need some Long Island Deer down boys. Best of luck. Wish I could get out more but stupid work. I hunt through you guys till I can get out again.

Well to go along with my 3 times out this season all my action has been in the am. At 730am this morning I had a 4 pointer come off the hill to my right. I needed it to go left. Still was a great day in the woods. Hoping to get out again Monday. My brother is heading out tomorrow if the weather holds up.

Is this the October lull people talk about? I am gonna try a scent wick filled with regular doe p tomorrow and see what happens.

Didn't want to start a tangent post... I'll start a new one.
JimmyDaSavage replied to Grizz1219's topic in Deer Hunting
Can't answer your question but I love when I hunt big game in Vermont that it is also half hour before and half hour after. Coyote Hunting is all year round at anytime of the day as well. -
I will be back out Tuesday on public land for my 3rd time of the season. The first time I got a doe and saw a giant, last Monday all I saw was a really small fawn like doe minus the spots. Hoping for good stuff Tuesday. Best of luck all!

Here is an update and hopefully the duck is gonna be ok. A Bradenton wildlife expert drove up and caught the bird. "Once we got her close enough to the edge of the water we shot her with a net launching rifle and then Derek and I jumped in after her and handed her over to an Animal Control officer who had a vet on standby who could make sure everything was ok and they could do surgery on it. "Vets at Animal Control are working on doing an X-ray on the duck to see how they can help.

His tag he can do what he wants with it. He did not post this asking if it was an ok deer to shoot. He was concerned about the health of the deer and all. Gotta respect that.
